How much power is gained if I just straight pipe my tacoma from cat back? My friend has this done on his 07 dodge 3500 2wd dually and he said it gives it more torque and it sounds good.

You would lose power. Your friend's Dodge is probably a turbo diesel. Since the turbo is there backpressure is not important so any restriction removed past the turbo helps.

Backpressure helps promote exhaust scavenging. Basically the exhaust pulse from once cylinder pulls the exhaust gases out of other cylinders as it travels down the exhaust. If you cut the pipe short or open it too much it won't have time to help suck out the exhaust gasses. Of course this only matters at low to mid RPM. After that the exhaust travels fast enough that it doesn't need help. So you would lose low end but gain a bit on top. Not worth it since most of the time you drive at below 3000 RPM.

I guess it would sound sick bro sick if you are gnar like that.
