Strange button

Saw this on ole buddy's 94 4runner. Had it stolen twice and he put a second ignition switch that he would have to click on with his foot before turning the key. Worked well unless his foot accidentally turned it off while driving

On a side note the vsc mod worked out pretty damn good I thought.

 

Mabey a back up camera momentary switch?

 

If you want to disable the beep:

1: Open the drivers door, take a seat, leaving the door open. Insert the key into the ignition.

2: Fully remove the key from the ignition and, within 5 seconds,
reinsert the key back into the ignition and switch to the ON position (not ACC, not RUN).

3: After 10 seconds, the system enters the 'answer-back mode' indicated by a beep from the dash.

4: Within 10 seconds of beep, press either unlock/lock (just pick one, then use it for both presses) on the remote, twice. The system will turn off
or on, or whatever the opposite setting is that it's currently on. Odometer display should read 'bp on' or 'bp off' I believe.

5: Turn key off and remove it. Get out of truck, shut door and test function.


Some tips to keep in mind if it doesn't work:

• The driver side door is closed.
• The ignition switch is turned off.
• The key is removed from the ignition cylinder.
• A transmitter button is not pressed for 10 seconds after answer-back switching mode is started.
• The transmitter is operated but the second button pressed is different from the first.
• Answer-back starts.

If you want to keep the beep, but tone it down a notch:

1: Buy/find a pair of foam in-ear plugs.

2: Open the hood and take a look in front of the battery on the drivers side. Locate the little black box with a hole that faces towards the battery. To be sure of the box location, press your remote (Caution: will be LOUD).

3: Take one foam earplug and roll it small, insert in small hole, allow it to expand.

4: Enjoy muted beep, but lack of silence.

This was my initial thought. Unfortunately, there's lots of mods that wire into the drivers side kick panel area so it's hard to know for sure.

Honestly no. But my truck has a remote start and button that looks identical. The guy who put it in says it’s for programming

 

I just found one of those same buttons under my drivers side panel as well. There is an aftermarket remote start installed so I’m guessing that’s what it’s for! Glad I read this thread. Now I can sleep tonight.

 

Sometimes those are 3X lock after market remote start valet/kill switch.

have you tried pressing lock 3 times to check if you can remote start?

The remote starts I sell for HKEY have the same button. They are used to kill the remote start and to program the smart phone app control module. With mine, if you press it 3 times, it takes it out of valet/kill mode.

To enter valet mode you turn the ignition on (2 clicks of the key, or two presses of the push to start) and press the valet switch 3 times. Again, same thing to exit valet mode.

Try that.

Do you have a DVD player?
if so, if you push the button while driving it will enable you to watch the DVD. Parking break simulator.

 

Have the button on my 06 tacoma dcsb or. Not to sure what it does also.

 

Time to revive an old thread!

I bought my truck two years ago; I've never experienced any alarm feature as it was deactivated.
However, after I wrecked my truck and had the battery removed for repairs; I realized the extra horn was for an aftermarket alarm.

I say aftermarket, because I too, have that small button attached to the lower cigarette lighter panel on the driver's side of the center console.

When I bought the truck, I was not given a key fob and there were no beeps when I interacted with the vehicle in any way that would indicate there to be an alarm present.

My question: How do I disable the alarm (perhaps using this button?) without a key fob? As now every time I hookup the battery and have the door open; the alarm sounds.
