It very well could if you're dealing with excessive carbon buildup as a possible culprit. Can't hurt to try (hopefully, haha).

I would also do a few other basic things while you're at it like cleaning the throttle body (take it off and spray it with TB cleaner/wipe the gunk out of it) and clean the MAF sensor. Assuming these are simple DIY tasks on the 2nd gen like they are on 1st gens.

I know how to clean the MAF, honestly I was afraid to touch the throttle body... do you know if there is a guide somewhere for it?

I'll have to let someone else chime in on that, I'm not familiar with how the 2nd gen one works.

These trucks ping, mine has done it since new on 87 octane. I have to run 93 in order for it to go away, Dealer even completed the pinging TSB for me and it helped some but its still there. Try some 93 and see if it goes away.

dang wish we got 93 here in SoCal, highest we have is 91. Then again, 91 is $4/gallon right now so I'd hate to think of what 93 would cost.

Yep. It is. But TT fuels exceed the minimum mandated detergents requirements....and Costco apparently does as well.

Yeah I'm right around $3.20 now for 93, it hurts but its the only thing this truck wont ping on. I might as well own a diesel as its cheaper then 93 lol.

Yeah I refuse to pay the rip-off prices of premium. All gas should just be a higher octane by default , would be so much better for everyone lol

Yes but the issues are that it seems to be aimed at 2012+ models and also .. That doesn't explain why my taco just started doing it.

So on the way home last night I drive normally and really only got her to do it once. But it was a lot less. I floored it a bit on two straight away close to my house to see if she just needed to breath. Annoying that 3rd to 4th slipped once a but but what can you do? Haha

I will see of she does it again today.

How did you fix the lean problem? I put brand new knock sensors and harness and thought that was the problem. I always run 91 cause of the Trd supercharger and still at around 2k rpms i get that sound. Did you do tunning?

Added the URD 7th injector kit...it adds more fuel to the mix via the supercharger intake and helps richen the fuel mixture.

Sounds like you need a fuel modification as well...7th injector or a methanol injection kit, or bigger injectors, etc. It's a common problem with the 3.4l and boost

I always run Top Tier gas in my 2013 Taco V6 but still had the spark knock at high outside Temp. Shouldn't have to run higher octane to get rid of it either. I had the ECU reprogrammed per TSB and no more spark knock with 87 Octane.

Yes the TSB mod of ECU fixed mine, 87 octane no problem.

Are you running the 4.0 V6 with oil filter opening facing down? If so, the Fram was probably draining after shutdown and needed to fill back up when restarted. The OEM filter has an anti drain back valve which keeps the filter full after shutdown.
