I absolutely love the top mount filter.

    Changes have never been easier.

My truck is full of tasty delicious Amsoil 0w30, and every five thousand miles, where ever I am, I just pop off the old filter and screw on a new one,

right here in the Autozone parking lot ... Purolator off, STP on ... done!

when i was shoppin for mine, i opened the hood to see whats what. i noticed how easy everything was to get to (unlike my passat) and the filter/drain arrangement was a bonus. surprisingly i understood it as soon as it hit my eye. diggin the perm drain hose idea!

another vote that the belt is likely hosed. and for those of ya givin this kid so much shit, please write up a document showin yer perfect record of auto repair. common, we all blow it. lucky for him this was a simple lesson/fix. dont tell me ya never had a $100+ screw up.

We've all made stupid mistakes but most of us don't go on a rant and blame it on something else besides our own stupidity.

With the permanent hose installation I wait until I'm completly done with the oil change then plug the end of the hose. When your ready for the next oil change the hose is allready in place...just remove the plug and your ready to go! I've read where people (and mechanics) hang a bottle off the catch basin and forget it's there...ends up a real mess!

Thanks for the :crapstorm: but as I've said its :deadhorse:. I know my mistakes, I've learned from them and thanks but I'm not a moron and I do know how to change oil.

I agree it is an easy spot to get to! At the time of my rant, I wasn't to happy about its location but now, with a little sleep and calming down...I'm good to go.

And for those of you that noticed and commented, I appreciate the ideas about the AC.

Toyota OEM filters don't exist on this island hence why I used Fram. I've had great success with Fram in the past so I trust that brand.

It's ok I did the same thing. No big deal I learned something and that is if you want to do anything to your taco look on this site and you will find that some one else has already done it and knows how to do it better. I now use a 4' air hose into my oil drain pan. Sorry it happened.

There is your first problem. Fram filters are great for things you don't care about. You need to switch to a dealer filter. I'm not going to bash Mobil but I will swear by Valvoline instead.

I've got to chime in on this!! If not for a little Coast Guard cross rating jab.

And this is why you don't let BM's near engines!!!!

Have you tried any simple green on it?

    Oh yes...CG love!

I have gotten a lot of insight from this thread...needless to say. We all take care of our trucks differently with different parts, some of us live in places where we don't have the luxury of dealer parts and sourcing, and shipping costs an arm and a leg to get things out here. On a side note, I am thankful that I can work on my own car, with my own 2 hands and learn things about it, albeit thru small mistakes.

Don't feel like reading the thread, but did you figure out how to do it correctly? I can change my oil, and only get three fingertips dirty from the drain plug. Best setup ever.

I don't see why everyone keeps telling you what you did wrong. You admitted a couple of times by now that you understand. But really, you should have read a thread by "Krazie" a while back where he drained the transmission (thought it was the oil), then put the transmission fluid in the coolant overflow bottle cause it was the same color. Now that was funny!!
