    Dobies are great dogs. I've always had Dobermans.

    Here's a little more about Subway:
    We got our puppy from an AKC Breeder of Merit in Long Island, NY.

    She was bred for conformation, obedience and temperament. This is the reason our puppy is obedient, smart and is definitely a beauty.

    There is a mild european ancestry, but the breeder breeds for absolute outstanding "softer" temperament. European Dobes tend to be a little "sharp." Subway is the friendliest dog in the entire neighborhood. She loves everything and everyone, especially kids and the elderly. She stays in her yard with no leash. She just has that alert, "guard dog" look:)

    Subway has her AKC "Canine Good Citizen" certificate and is certified as a Therapy Dog by Therapy Dog International (TDI.) In general, the certifications require that she pass rigorous obedience type tests on and off leash. Included in these tests are her ability to deal with specific "stress" type situations such as being around other strange dogs and other people while conducting certain obedience aspects of the test. The Therapy Dog test goes even further, requiring her to be stable near children, be able to deal with the fact that her handler is out of sight. She cannot take food that is on the ground. At one point of the test, they had people milling around her on wheelchairs, crutches and canes and they banged bedpans and other loud noises. With all of these distractions, she pretty much had to ignore everything. She passed with flying colors.

    To this day, there is nothing that causes her to freak out. She even ignores the firecrackers on July 4 and New Years.

    The only thing that causes her any kind of "alert guard dog" behavior is when strangers come a little too close to my two young daughters and wife without reasonably announcing themselves. Then she gives that look: "really? you want to come any closer before checking in with my dad or mom?" Once she notices that the girls have a welcoming demeanor, then she's all kisses and hugs with the new person.

    A month ago, I reprimanded her for nibbling on my daughters slipper. What did she do? She spent two weeks guarding the other slipper because she thought that it must be something precious, since I yelled at her for messing with the other slipper. We had to take away the precious slipper. She was obsessed with guarding it from all evil.

    Productive weekend.

    My girl and I spent quality time together working on her new/old RAV4. We drained/refill transaxle, transfer case and rear diff. Changed oil/filter. Changed cabin air filter. Installed her new WeatherTech floor mats that I got on a TW GB.

    Next few weeks will be wipers, spark plugs, rear shocks, rear diff axle seals and rear brakes. Also thinking about aftermarket rear view camera, mudguards and foglights.

    The slipper story is hysterical!!!! I can't wait to get a house with some property. I just don't think it would be fair to get a dog while we're still living in a cramped apartment. They need to run, play, and be dogs.

    YUP. Doubtful she's gonna be a future mechanical superstar, but she'll be able to hold her own and not be taken advantage of when it comes to dealing with service guys.

    Hey Nick @Crom and others,

    I'm looking at the Bilstein 6112's as well. I've got BF front plate bumper arriving soon. My initial plan was to go with OME886X/Bilstein 5100 front combo to manage the weight of the front bumpers. I've read in various places that the 5100's may not be correctly matched/valved/dampened for the 886x's 660# spring rate. The 885 and 884's are 590#. I think the OEM coils are around 500#-ish.

    We know that the OME Nitrochargers can work with the 886x"s, but we won't go there. LOL.

    Back to the 6112's: What's your reason for moving towards the 6112's? Do you know if the provided Bilstein coil springs have a stiffer rate and can manage the additional plate bumper weight?

    The spring rate is 610 lbs. My truck will never have a heavy front bumper or winch.

    6112's are a spring and shock combo. The shock is much larger than the 5100. More oil, larger body, better at dissipating heat. My 885 coils have been good to me. When it's time to replace shocks, it would be great to refresh the coils and new top hat hardware as well.

    All that, plus I got a really great deal on a lightly used set of 6112's over the summer. Just need time to put it all in.

    Truck looks great.....posting so I can read everything later. May have a few questions for you too.

    I'll be running 6112 (4th notch) and Dakars (maybe w/aal) and 5125 shocks come spring. I like them for the reasons given above. May eventually get a front plate bumper and winch with upgraded 700# Eibach springs.

    Brute Force plate bumpers due to arrive soon.

    Need to start thinking about cutting the bedsides to accommodate the high clearance bumper.

    I used a cut off wheel. Billy told me to leave the flares on. They wont melt. If you take them off, its hard to realign then with the piece that you just cut off.

    Also, when cutting, dont linger or you will burn paint. I would also have a hand file or a grinder wheel, to clean the edges afterwards.

    Pick up some of that edge trim, for after. Oh, and there are 2 brackets under the fender liner that need to be pb blasted. They are perpendicular to the frame. Ill get some pictures soon

    I used an air die grinder. If I did it again I'd use an angle grinder with a cut off wheel.

    You also have to be careful measuring. I popped the bedrail cap up because it moves around. Then, I put a big block of wood on top of the bedside to measure from. This way I could measure straight down from the block to make my lines rather than bending the tape.

    Last bit of advice? Don't F@&K it up! :D

    I left flares on too. I put down some blue tape, measured many times, and cut once, I used an angle grinder with a fresh cut off wheel. I deburred the sheet metal cut with a large hand file. Once smooth, I painted edge black with rustoleum from a can with a brush. I had planned on using that door edge guard stuff, but the paint looks fine so never used any. If you paint, obviously use some tape so your line is straight. My paint line is like 1/4", and black blends in with MGM paint.

    My Passenger side cut is good. Don't do the cut when your sick like I was, my drivers side is not straight. :rofl:

    Somewhere in the forum is a nice "how to" writeup using a laser level, etc. I'd take a look in there.
