Now I gotta figure out if I want the 50” or 48”

There might be a curvature of the cap at the tail end that might not make the 50” the ideal choice.

Heres a few pics of the mounting on joes old cap, back when it was mine. It was these special washer things that also held the nut in place.

I ordered the 48” rails with the fiberglass kit and it appears to be the exact hardware that Joe received.

It doesn’t look like it would spread much of any updraft load.

I sent an email questioning the hardware kit and requesting a fiberglass install instruction sheet.

Maybe just make a metal plate up to put the bolts thru to help with your imagined updraft force? Unless you are mounting an airfoil on top of that rack, I doubt that you will have any significant loading in that direction.

If the shell is flat-ish underneath home depot and lowes sell like 3ft sections of flat stock steel you could just make a giant plate for the whole track also. I to don't think there will be that significant of an updraft.

    Not imagined.

I was thinking about carrying my $$$$$ bicycle on top.

But the CF handlebar, CF wheel and the spokes do have an airfoil cross section :)

Because I lost the option of securely mounting on my bed.

I might go with this. I think @Wheelspinner also mentioned a flat flat plate of some sort. Or maybe fender washers that @Blackout14 suggested.

You don't really need anything to think I'd say less than 1/8" really and they have them up to 3" widths.

Make some aluminum plate washers as large as you can where the rack mounts to the cap. That should add sufficient surface are to avoid both pull through and flex of the fiberglass cap where the rack mounts to it.

Just get a giant molly panel and use that as reinforcement.

But really have you thought about using those bolts to mount a cargo net up there. Check the electric section at HD for pipe clamps.

If you going to go as far as metal or aluminum strips.why not use that electrical strut with the holes so you can mount/tie off to it.

    You beat me.

If you mount it on the flat you can bolt to it with the spring nuts they have.

But the cap probably has a slight arch.

Home Depot electrical section by the conduit. 10 ft lengths two different thickness 7/8 and 1 3/4 I think. Around 20-25$ for the 7/8.
