Hey man, fellow teenager here. I drive a double cab so its a little different but wiring my sub wasn't really that hard from scratch. Helps if you have someone there who can help you. The hardest part is wiring to the stock head unit according to my friends dad who does it constantly. If money isn't that big of a deal why not get an aftermarket headunit

I’m starting to think I’m being trolled....

That is exactly what I said to do, except do it back at the sub to make it easier. Same thing, easier to do.

I have a friend with an aftermarket head unit and I really don't like the look of it. I bought a bluetooth thingy and now I have amazing quality bluetooth. How did you wire it to your stock head unit?

I thought you were saying a converter on the stock sub. So I can just buy this 10 dollar converter and easily wire a sub?

Yes, the signal you will get from the back of the deck is the same as the one you will get from the wire at the factory sub. That will handle your rca inputs for your amp.

Well there are lots of different kinds of aftermarket head units, and I don't have a stock one. I was in the same boat about not liking aftermarket ones until i found one i liked, ill post a pic in a sec. Also are you referring to a Bluetooth transmitter?

Yes. It is really nice. So did your aftermarket head unit come with RCA outputs?

Where does the RCA input thing go? Into the back of the stock head unit? Sorry I am just confused on how this thing really works. Is this the correct product? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EAWS3W?qid=1379828502&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX110_SY165

I have no clue man I got my entire setup, new speakers and all as my graduation present. I used to use a bluetooth transmitter to and trust me the sound is subpar once you hear nice audio quality 20190215_214824.jpg

So does it hookup to the remote wire that would usually go into the back of a new headunit? Or does it hook up to the amp. I am just still confused. When you wire a sub you usaully run the "remote" wire from the sub to the back of the head unit. So does this Line output remote hook up to that remote wire? And one last question is does this still involve the stock sub? Im just no electrician. lol

When your friends wired your sub with you where did they run the "remote wire"? Thanks

Ok, so I know I really sound like an idiot right now. My main question is will the line converter thing make it so I can make the "remote" wire hookup? I want to just leave the stock sub alone. Does this Line converter create a place for the remote wire to go. All I want to know is how to wire an new sub while keeping the stock head unit. Will this converter thing make this happen? Once again I am very grateful for you guys taking so much time to try to explain these things to me. I truly do appreciate it. @DiamondW

So All you want to do is add a new, completely separate sub? Like leave the one that is there in it's place unused? Where you plan to mount the new sub?

All a remote wire is, is a 12v wire that is powered when you turn the ignition key. If all you need is a remote wire, run one from the fuse box located by your left knee :)

We didn't have to wire a remote wire because of the aftermarket headunit

You can use the converter with wire taps at the factory sub location and leave the factory sub alone. Personally I would remove the factory sub, and use the wires to feed the converter witch will feed your new amp, and but a new sub in a good box in that location. The converter gives your amp two signals it can use. It tells your amp to turn on when music is on(remote wire) and gives it the music in the proper form for amplification.

Do yourself a favor, forget the converter for the RCA from fthe factory head unit any time I ever heard subs run off one of those on a factory head unit it sounds like total crap becuase it's essentially trying to use a door speak signal.. The signal is just no where near as clean as a true RCA from a dedicated output that's setup to filter frequencies for bass.. Just get an aftermarket head unit..life will be so much easier and it will sound so much better IMO..

Yes you can keep your head unit.We just did pretty much the same.As in connecting to the oem head unit.If you have everything wired from the factory. And all your doing is changing out the sub it won't matter. We added a Alpine 500watt amp to a 10' kicker. It wasn't prewired so we had to run all new wires.
