Some co-workers had been tracking this and I ordered one as soon as heard reports of this working. I’m quite surprised how well it is working.

Any updates ? Just ordered myself, going to move usb behind dash altogether. Hopefully this isn’t cutting in and out like after market stereos.

It still works pretty reliably for me since the update that happened in January. I don't know if I would hide it behind the dash. Occassionally it won't connect and I have to unplug it from the USB and plug it back in, but I suspect you could turn off the truck and restart it. It usually easier to just unplug though because by the time I figured out it isn't connecting, I'm already in drive and headed away from my house.

so what your saying is it’s not a perfect fix. Does the stereo ever cut out when it’s already connected ?

Nope, once it is working it has always been fine for me, I have never had issues with it once it is going. Only at the beginning when it is connecting, sometimes it crashes or doesn't load properly and has to be powercycled, but it's not real often it even does that.

Can this be used to mirror your phone and utilize maps?

This is not mirroring, it's carplay. You can use any apps that are carplay compatible, but the format is in carplay. I use waze, audible, Amazon music, music for itunes and on the phone, text messaging just to name a few and apple maps works fine. Also access my homekit stuff like opening and closing my garage door well before I get to my house. However it doesn't mirror apps that are not compatible. You aren't going to be able to pull up netflix or youtube.

I left my USB location alone and I just took some velcro and mounted it below the USB connection in the top of the cubby hole right there.

3” long right angle usb extender cable adapter from a truck stop works fine. I tried a plain right angle USB adapter, but it protruded more from the dash than using the straight plug.

Yeah that was really a weird decision in my opinion. I'd think hiding the USB ports that actually interface with the infotainment system in the console would not only be cleaner looking but also the more secure option just because you don't have a giant cable running from there to the USB port on the dash. I guess maybe its just because I have an MP3 Player I use for music, have my phone to do actual phone things and the Qi charger does nothing for me at this point in time

I still really like mine and even like how it handles pairing to separate devices. I did get a 90 deg USB adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QYS3FD8/) which provides a better way for external connection of the device. It works well enough that I'm pretty sure that I won't mount this behind my dash.

When connected to Carplay, can you still control the in-built gps with voice commands using the steering wheel button?

If you’re using CarPlay with the much better dynamic maps and voice command via Siri, why would you want to use the built-in software? Push the button on the steering wheel, or even better, enable voice command and just bark “Hey Siri...”.
