    My auto locksmith said he won’t cut aftermarket keys because they ruin his machine. Please tell me anyone who knows where to get this done in MA.

    Just got quoted $65 just for cutting the blank key and 120 for cutting and programming. Id rather not go to lowes and get them to do it.. guess I'll be shopping around

    @stonylaroux
    Did you get yours done at a professional locksmith? I saw you paid 5 bucks

    I just got another key cut yesterday at the same place I went the first time and had no issues. I just tell them I need "this key cut onto this blank" and hold up both. They just take it and do it and it's around $5. They do make me sign a waiver saying they don't guarantee work on keys they don't sell.

    Broadway Locksmith Inc. in Seattle - https://goo.gl/maps/iPAtLS2FuvYTEw5n8

    I would just try to find a standalone locksmith shop. Give them a call beforehand to see if they agree to do it before you go.

    Looks like the closest store front option (non mobil) is about 45 minutes away and want $20 plus another70 if programmed but I plan on doing that myself. All the local locksmiths are mobile so I guess thats why they charge 70 for the cutting . Upcharge for driving to my location. I guess I'm going to either make the drive or try to see if the mobile ones will give me a discount if I can come to them/make it convenient. 1st world and non big city problems lol

    Can't take it to lowes anyways because they will only cut you purchase from them

    I called a mobile guy here to cut and program 2 standard OEM Toyota keys and he said 40$ each. That’s cutting and programming of the key.

    I know everyone hates Walmart but see if they will cut it for you. When I picked up my truck, it only had one standard Toyota key. To get a spare I tried Lowe’s as they had cut and programmed keys for my Acura for 49$ before but they didn’t have any for my Toyo. I went to Walmart to check and they had the chipped key and it was 68$ cut and programmed. Key box below

    Neither one (Walmart, lowes, home depot any kiosk) will let you bring your own key in and that is the whole point of this thread, for me at least. To get a flip key fob.

    Using these instructions I was able to get myself a fancy pants flip key. Cost of the key was ~$40 from eBay after shipping. Cutting was $12 at my local Toyota dealer (however in my case they said no cost because they weren't sure / didn't want liability or something). USB-OBD2 programmer cable was ~$40 from Amazon. All total I spend about $80 and if I want future keys I just need new transponder blanks.

    So far the only negatives are that the flip-key remote lock/unlock buttons don't always work unless I press really hard. I suspect it's just due to being new and needing a bit more break-in. Range seems about the same as my factory unit.

    Thanks to @stonylaroux for a great write-up!

    Does anyone know if the software will work on a MAC?

    Unfortunately I’m familiar with boot camp as well and it will prob be a huge pain with this type of app. IT background as well on the medical side. Too bad I never grabbed a surplus Windows laptop

    While downloading techstream using above directions i got to a point near the end where a prompt came up saying 'newer version available' and you have 3 choices update now later or cancel. I click later and I shows an error message. I click updated and it brings me to a site where you need actual credentials. I click cancel and... well you know. Maybe I'm missing something or i did something wrong. I deleted everything and starting over just curious if anyone has run into this

    @stonylaroux ?

    I believe I used update now and just closed the window that pops up and went to using it. Been awhile since I have plugged it in.

    I think I know whats going on
    It cannot recognize the M-VCI driver and says it needs updating but can't find the right update.

    Anyone else have this problem?

    Did you download software/drivers from the person you bought the USB/OBD2 cable from, or did you download from those Mac links I posted above? Don't use the download links in that Mac article, they are probably outdated.

    If you downloaded from the place you bought the cable, be sure to follow the PDF instructions extremely carefully step-by-step. If it doesn't work you are kinda on your own since it's basically a hacked program anyways.

    EDIT: I found this other thread while looking at other things. Lots of good info about how to get Techstream working: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...for-windows-10-clean-and-easy-install.423056/

    Cool, thanks ill look into it. I purchased the same products the original poster used and all the same directions. I used to be pretty good with technology but as they say if you don't use it you lose it. The person I bought it from has a install video but part of it is in Chinese so I get the jist of of but I think they did something with part of the install including updating driver but the OP didn't mention anything about that so I've been trying to troubleshoot. I just got fed up yesterday and starting from scratch today. Thanks for the info

    Also not using the MAC stuff you posted. If I can't figure it out and can't find someone close with techstream i might just do the 2 day membership for 20 bucks
