For the near term, if you want to make this happen, it's going to have to be you doing the actual cutting and wiring I think. I just dont think anybody wants to spend the time trying to build it right now for anybody else.

(@traumahawk is actually the one closest to building hardware directly compatible to what you are trying to do. He is on vacation now... I have no idea if he is interested in making a harness for you as well.)

If you are willing to do actual part purchases, cut wires, solder a few items, and put it together.... then there are several people here that will help give exact part numbers and sources, instructions and schematics...

Note, we know quite a bit about the locker system, But at this exact moment, you will be testing on your truck, and be in uncharted waters.

Well I’m definitely wanting to make it happen. I appreciate you straight forwardness. Let me ponder on it and let the air outside warm up just a hair and I’ll see what I can do.

I am going to be making a fairly large order of the connectors you will need. If you want to attempt this yourself let me know and I will make sure I have what you need set aside. If you aren't comfortable doing the crimping on the tiny terminals I can have someone do it, or I can do it for a reasonable cost.

Yeah, I mean to say that its better to have a light off that should be on, than to have one on that should be off.

I may have missed this somewhere, but don't the 2WD OR trucks have a locker? So it's not a speed issue (running with it locked, not trying to lock it while running.)

@YamaDirtrider above should be all the info you need to make this happen. Do you think you could have it ready by this weekend?

    BTW
    Since I wrote that,

    1. OVTune basically implied it is relatively unlikely.
    2. All my attempts to make a 4Lo spoofer have failed. (It will take a pretty impressive computerized solution, or similar, to make 4Lo spoof)
    3. @traumahawk has gotten to the point of on-vehicle testing using 12v knocked down via resistor. (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2017-e-locker.585669/page-5#post-20380348)

My attempts to produce a spoof system was failure. I could not get past all the built-in ECU checks with a simple spoof system, every attempt would eventually get flagged by the ECU and cause a lock out.

At this point, I really only know of 2 possibilities with the e-locker, one known to work and one speculation.

    1) Control the locker 100% manually. This is known to work. I recommend reducing the voltage with a power resistor (or PWM). The existing dash lights will not work, and will require separate lights if desired. A simple ABS deactivate (which I highly recommend) has not been found. If you want more data let me know.

    2) Convince OVTune to add this as an option to vFtune. He previously indicated that he didnt want to do it due to danger. Maybe he can be convinced. Even if you convince him, I havent heard any guarantee that he can manipulate the 4wd ECU.

I know, I’d pay 500 bucks just for this mod. It’s a joke you can’t use it in 2wd, my buddies Ford can be activated when you ever you want and as far as I know you don’t have to put a Prerunner in 4x4 to use the locker. Oh wait...

But seriously... someone needs to figure this out

I have a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-Road with an e-locker in the rear. I don't need to do the "locker anytime mod" but I would like to have all of the warning lights off when I remove the e-locker from the rear differential and the switch from the overhead. I have been reading some posts on the locker anytime mod, and would rather just do an ARB air locker when I re-gear here in a month or two. I am going to do the ARB air locker in the front, ARB compressor, plus the wiring and plumbing for that, so it just makes sense to do an air locker in the rear, and I can have a true rear locker on a switch next to the front locker switch and compressor switch. I don't want to disable any of the safety devices. I just need to fake the truck out so it thinks there is still and e-locker in the rear end. Unplugging the e-locker really freaks the truck out, and I was really hoping that would work and be a simple work around. IT IS NOT. lol. From the wiring diagram above, is there an option just to fake out the ECU that it thinks there is a locker there when it scans for it?

3 ohm resistor across the pins that go to the locker and energize the solenoid.

The stock e-locker is a "true" locker and I run an ARB in the front. Anytime mod my way coming sometime.

If you put a resistor in place of the e-locker coil (to spoof the 4wd ECU), make sure you make it a power resistor (so it can absorb the current if somebody turns it on), or make it impossible to accidentally turn it on (by disconnecting the switch or depinning the wire from the switch to the ECU, etc).
Otherwise the resistor is going to get VERY hot very quick.

Note, I dont think there is any reasonable reason to remove the e-locker that is already installed and replace with air locker (in the rear). I will guarantee that the e-locker will be many orders of magnitude more reliable than the air locker in practice (after modification to operate anytime), with just a little learning curve on getting it locked.

To make that elocker operate, just involves feeding it a voltage, it isnt complicated. (It is pretty high power, so a relay is recommended. I recommend feeding it a reduced voltage like Toyota did, because I cant prove that it will be ok with 14volts, but it very likely will be fine at the higher voltage. I recommend putting a flyback diode on it like Toyota did inside the ECU so it doesnt try to toast relays, but most people will probably use it so rarely that it a normal automotive relay will last for the vehicle lifetime without the diode.) It really isnt complicated to just feed it 14volts, and if you want to follow the most conservative practices, it isnt that much harder.

You literally might as well play with the e-locker before yanking it out. (If you dont like it or destroy it, what are you out?)

Thanks BigWhiteTRD. I think I will play with the e-locker a little. So basically, I need to set this up like the wiring diagram that you have in post #13? I will see if I can source some of the factory connectors and try to do all this without cutting into the factory wiring at first. I plan on just doing an aftermarket lock switch, the 1.5 ohm high power resistor, and the diode to test this out. I believe you said the diode needs to be 1N4001-1N4007 in a later post?

    Correct
The locked light is 100% optional.
Some people will say that you dont need the 1.5 ohm power resistor (to drop the voltage to the lock coil), and they are PROBABLY 100% correct. I just cant find any data to prove that beyond a doubt to myself, so I don't want to give somebody instructions that aren't backed by hard data.

The diode is primarily to protect the switch or relay (whichever is used to actually switch off the power), and its P/N isnt too critical here. I doubt you can hardly buy a decently sized diode that wouldnt work. (when you shut off an inductor like the lock coil it will try to continue to flow power, think of it kind of like a turbine that is spun up)

It is definitely possible to get connectors from several places in that circuit for relatively reasonable cost, I dont have the P/N and locations instantly in front of me.

And add ~3 ohm resistor to the ECU side (as @ShimStack pointed out) so that the ECU doesnt know the locker isnt there.

@fuzzydoodle (installing an OR rearend and manually activating the locker on a sport, which includes some discussion on connectors, but he didnt have to spoof the ECU). I REALLY liked his resistor installation, with (2) power resistors installed in parallel on an aluminum plate for heat spreading.

I commented on your video, but figured I would ask here as well. Is there any dash indication for the locker in 2wd? also, does the locker function normally in 4lo, or do you need to always use the locker anytime button?
