Supercharged engine rebuild

They said if I can prove they messed up they'll pay me back so

 

I'd be curious to see exhaust valves on that cylinder

 

Not much of an expert but would this be a good time to address the plastic coolant bypass on the replacement motor prior to dropping it in? (Either modded Lexus aluminum or OE plastic)

So, just looking ahead here, one of the guys suggested that instead of dropping the engine and worrying about mating the trans with the tq converter, dickin around with the wiring, hoses etc. He suggested we pull the trans, mate it outside the truck, do all the wiring, hoses and whatnot, then drop it in all at once.. not sure what to do here, im thinking itll be same same, what're your guys thoughts?

 

You'll get a cleaner finished product pulling the motor and trans, and reassembling before installing. The trickiest part is controlling the tail-shaft as it comes out of the tunnel and into the air. If you pull everything you can check all the breather hoses that run on top of the trans, transfer-case, and motor. From what I read so far, you are doing a great job on the rebuild. I'd take the time and do it right. Pull it all, check it all, reassemble it all, and reinstall it all . If you haven't already done it, replace the body mount bushings too. Nice rebuild, btw.

 

I don’t think the angle the drivetrain has to be at to drop in will work since you can’t remove the front core support easily.

If it were me I’d probably drop the trans to the floor, set the engine in place and then do a normal transmission reinstall.

 

Got the heads off, some scuff marks on the cylinder walls.. its a shame we can't bore these bad boys out

Its all good, just another learning experience and reminder to just do the work myself. The whole reason for taking it to that shop in the first place was bc I was nervous about the sc install

 

Are you a mechanic by trade or just gifted with mechanical abilities ? This project is more than just tinkering , more power to you and good luck !

 

Why not just go V8? I just can't justify putting the $8,000 supercharger in this truck for a measly 80 horsepower or whatever.

 

There are no simple V8 swaps.

Wiring harness is out, almost ready to drop the trans out, new engine should be in on Monday

Why did you have to take the harness out?

 

I pulled the transmission so I can mate the engine, get all the electrical plugged back in and drop it all in at once, some of the connectors are a pain to get to in the back of the block. That and the new engine should come with a harness

 

New engine came in, its got 49k miles.. dropping it off for a compression test

 

After looking at the engine, it looks like that engine is from 2wd tacoma, it doesnt have the transfer case wiring in the harness. The oil pan looks the same so hopefully itll drop in place no problem.. dropping it off soon for compression test
