Yeah old 6’5 equals potatoe chip, used to love me a potatoe chip, but fuck I snapped a lot of em, and more volume means your 6’5 will paddle like a 6’8 and respond like a 6’5...which is nice :D

Yup. It's thin and tiny. I'm 210 lbs of solid American. That's gotta be like 300 pounds in Brazilian.

Anybody do any surf specific gym workouts? Or do you just surf? I had the Joel Parkinson pro surf app on the iPhone which had all his training workouts for each tour stop but it hasn’t been updated in forever and doesn’t work on the new iOS. I realized that 3 hours of surfing yesterday that I am way out of shape and want to step my paddle game up

I use black Swan yoga but yeah yoga and also in the gym 4 days a week. Upper and lower body splits. Plus running for cardio. But I'll skip the gym if I can surf that day.

I’m incredibly tight. I really need to make a better effort at stretching and foam rolling every day. I can barely do a full squat my hips have gotten so tight. Damn these desk jobs

I got a double calf cramp out in the water yesterday. Both legs locked up for a good 60 seconds in the water. Entirely locked with no ability to move them let alone tread water. It was a very strange sensation. I attribute it to being dehydrated. Anyone else ever get anything like this? I've had a calf cramp up before but normally you move your foot a docent way and it frees up.

Cramps definitely. Not to that extent though. I usually drink a Gatorade and eat a banana half an hour before I surf to try and load up on potassium and fluids to stay cramp free. Seems to be working

Yeah I always down a decent amount of water on my way to the beach and then a quick chug right before I lock the truck up.

Stretching, diet, and breathing can prevent cramps mostly

I usually pound water or coconut water but I didn't that day. It was crazy. small waves, no risk of danger or anything but if it was to happen in a big day, scary.

Nothing in the gym can really come close to what you do in the water (aside from actually just doing laps in the pool) but what helps me, aside from cardio, is the light weight shoulder lifts. I've torn tendons in both shoulders, so it goes a long way for me. And hate it if you want but, I got a SUP board that I take out on my lunch break when the surf is small just to paddle around. Great core, back and should workout.

You definitely gotta hit the gym. Can’t be all surf. I realized on Saturday I need more leg work cuz my legs were beat. But I do agree surfing itself is one of the best training but needs to be supplemented.
I will definitely be buying a SUP soon though for those flat days! I want to try and be in the water as much as possible once I move.
