LA isn't Hawaii, and the runoff here is fucking gnarly. LA basin is one giant drain from inland. I usually wait a day or two. If we lived on the central coast, I wouldn't worry about runoff. I guess depends on the swell direction too and where that shit is getting pushed.

Well I guess it's a definite no go based on my Socal local. At least vans is indoors. Stupid rain.

I don't think anyone compared LA to Hawaii.

The article from Surfline sourced their info taken from beaches in the LA County too. The chance of getting sick surfing during/after rain is only about 1.5% higher than not surfing at all.

I'd say go now when the rain starts, tho mostly stormy and blown out. It's the day or so after that is sketchy.

You mentioned Hawaii. Just saying, I don't care to surf in shitty water.

At work now. I'd be able to go tomorrow or Sunday or even Monday but it will be mid storm by then

I was quoting the other dude who mentioned living and surfing in Hawaii in the rain, saying it rains almost every time you surf. The water quality is obviously significantly better over there, even during and after rains.

There's definitely spots here that seem cleaner, but I have no scientific evidence. Haha. I'd do above Malibu to county line after rains. Maybe it's the psychology of the mountains against the coast that make it seem cleaner.

Haha yea, I avoid Sunset to Manhattan after rains. Note: this is based purely on some weird psychology

I read that Surfline article. thing is, after living here almost 6 years, and surfing after rain for the first 4 years and getting sick almost every time, decided it wasn't for me. science or no science, i don't get sick surfing 3-5x a week when there hasn't been rain, and when there has i was getting sick 3/5 times. luckily, it doens't rain much so i haven't missed out on that much surf.

Seriously. sunny all week with rain all weekend. i've been getting good surf throughout the week though. some really fun days this winter. or the day it starts raining, i'll surf that day. because not much runoff yet at that point. but i am over the wet/ cold weather. ready for some sunshine!

Yeah I can't work when it's rained out, I can't skate, I can't surf.... I am ready for less precipitation.
