Always the plan! Been looking for more people to get down to baja and explore with, can't surf right now for injury reasons so its a good excuse to drive down and explore.

Tons of great beaches without surf and you can lots of fun overlanding. Ive done a fair amount and lots to discover on the Penninsula.

Making an attempt at bringing some life back to my favorite 10' beater board. Haven't done a complete glass in over a decade so suggestions/tips are welcome.

The foam is so old and water logged that the stringer was pertruding 1/2" above the surface in some sections.

Yikes. That board is done in my opinion. You’re basically taking all the work of making a board (90% is glassing) and starting with a turd. Although a fun excercise in shaping no doubt, you’d be better off picking up a blank and throwing that thing away. Blanks for logs are like 100. Glassing a board is a lot of work haha.

If you’re committed to bringing that thing back to life, let it dry out for a longtime. Sounds counter intuitive, but spraying that thing with a hose might help dry it out faster. Salt from the sea water plugs the holes in the foam and makes things super slow to dry out. Also, looks like you might have some holes to fill. I fill chunks with Elmer’s glue mixed with q cell (basically foam dust) to keep things light. Also, the mixture is very sandable once dry. Use epoxy to glass that thing. Laminating you’ll need a lot of resin. Like 45oz per side I’d guess. (Maybe more depending on glassing schedule). Filler coat about 22oz per side, and hot coat about 22 oz per side. So you’re looking at a gallon and a half (ish) of resin.

Lemme known if you have any questions along the way. My glassing booth has been busy lately. :)

Yeah, I'm pretty set on getting this thing done. I'm really using this as a test bed to try to re-familiarize my self with the process so that I can do a board from a blank. I'm not expecting it to be perfect. I have all the needed supplies already, and have actually had the foam out and drying for 3 weeks now. I even sealed the foam in a giant bag and used four HUGE desiccant bags to suck out every last drop of water:rofl:

I'm interested to know how you did the tie-dye!?!?!? That's awesome!!

Wow you are freaking on it! Cool way to dry it out. I like those glidey shapes, so I can understand wanting to rebirth it. Update us how he project comes along.

I did that resin job by mixing up three different colors of resin, and slowly pouring them into one bucket so the colors don’t mix. Then carry the bucket over the board very careful not to mix them, and pour out on the sheet during the lam. You really never know what you’re going to get, but every time it turns out totally psychedelic. That one is with glow in the dark pigments, and that boar lights up like a lighter.

Here is another one from last week.

Hell yeah, thats awesome! I may have to give that a try, thanks man!

I'll be filling hole and gashes tonight, and moving forward everyday this week. Updates to come.

What's you're drying time between steps: lam/sanding/gloss and also between bottom and deck?
