Hawaii here...I just throw a shortboard diagonally in my bed. Wade Tokoro has shaped my boards since I was a kid and was a competitive surfer. Just got back into surfing after heavy knee injuries so building quiver again...

Just went to a local lake last Sunday and paddled around for an hour. Got dunked twice before I got the hang of it. Feeling some burn on my shoulders and lats but the weirdest thing is I have sore muscles on my feet that I don’t think I’ve ever used before.

Yeah a lot of balancing with your feet on those things, tons of micro adjustments, my feet start to fall asleep if I’m going for a long paddle. Work your way up to taking it out in the ocean, that’s where the real workout is!

It has been a rough 3 weeks out of the water. Been absolutely dying to surf but still can’t. Hoping I’ll be good to go in another week :fingerscrossed:

Too lazy to pull off the stuff on my rack so I just put the board on top and strapped it down.

I'm thinking long-term I'm gonna want an inflatable just for the ease of storing and transport. Any of you guys have any experience with inflatable SUPs and can steer me in the right direction as far as what companies to look at?

Inflatables are legit. They are more affected by wind because of their construction and thickness. But they paddle just fine if you're casually exploring lakes.

Costco, eBay, you pick and go by the reviews. Just make sure you get one with a good return or warranty policy as sometimes there's issues (as with anything) and you don't want to be stuck with a lemon.

How do you guys reconcile with the fact that those things are down there?

I got a touch of thalassophobia so the thought of SUPing in ocean waters puts the shivers in my spine.

Dude, one legit wave and you are hooked for life. The ocean has so much magic in its currents, to play and frolic with all of these amazing creatures is a priveledge.

Plus, if you are logical about risk... driving your car on public roads is exponentially more dangerous.

Same way I deal with driving on a highway. Dont worry about it, you can die faster in a car then in the ocean

I understand the statistics are so low. Still, I know there’s 0% chance I’ll end up inside a great white while I’m paddling at Lexington reservoir.

I’m not risk-averse, I’ve been riding motorcycles (sportbikes mostly) for the last 20 years.

It’s just the thought of something eating me in those murky depths triggers something fucky deep in my brain.
