Xbox does its on the HD component cable connector, but then I cannot run HDMI on the sexbox

First of all I am trying to figure out an issue with my terrible knowledge on how to get this to work, I don't care about your audio.

Oh I agree on that one. The surround is ON for every single NBA game this and any season. Don't matter the hour.

Also, SupraTT, get the component cables and do what I and others suggested, it will work perfectly. :)

Pretty sure my only chances are component cables from the tv to the dvd reciever, while using HDMi from xbox to tv. correct? Since the reciever only has 1 HDMI..Output

If this is the xbox u have connect "1" using an optical cable to the DVD-receiver's input and connect "2" using a normal HDMI direct to the TV. Or use the xbox cord using only audio connections (no red/white rca) direct to the TV

    neglect, mostly.
I was actually talking about the high def component cables. they are purple and burgundy and something else. I'm can't get real specific cause I'm somewhat colorblind, but it won't be red white and yellow. if your tv has hdmi hookups you should have these.

And about the discussion on when to use the surround sound, I only turn mine on when I want it. I dont need it to watch MASH but I do to watch Open Range lol.

Well, that HDMI output will work while you are playing DVDs. The reason you do not have more outputs/inputs is that you have a DVD receiver and not a single function unit like what most top end systems use. Not saying your system will not sound well, more so saying that your system is built for dual purposes, so the connections will be a bit different.

So to summarize, yes, your best chance is to connect the HDMI cable from the receiver output to your TV, so you can use the DVD, connect the Xbox to the TV and then connect the sound output from the TV to the receiver so you can enjoy your system.

I forgot to put that. Use the HDMI out on the DVD to the TV because it will gove you the best quality video allowing for dvd upscaling. If anything, use the component (5 wire) for the xbox because it will allow the HD quality and no need for upscaling.

Personally, I'd save up for a receiver. A decent one that meets your needs is fairly cheap. Most HTIBs are pretty limited as you have discovered.

HTIBs can be "okay" but dvd-surround systems like this are very limited. Really they are made to offer surround sound for its dvd player only.
