When going over road bumps, potholes, and speed bumps my suspension makes a clicking/clunking sound as it articulates. Took it to the dealer and got the typical "it's normal" speech. I overheard them discussing something about a UCA bushing, and when I asked about it they just kept telling me it's normal. The truck didn't make this sound until around 23k miles, I changed the tires from 245/75/16 to 255/85/16 and it stayed exactly the same. Now at 34K miles. 2016 SR 4 Cyl ACLB with 150-200lbs in mods. I really appreciate any help or suggestion in diagnosis. They say everything is tight.

Mine makes a similar sound, but its my pad in the caliper floating. Any chance your noise is tied to the brake pedal? I can get mine to do it just by backing up or going forward and easing onto the brakes.

Your noise sounds too light to be in the UCA to me, but noise can be deceiving in video sometimes.

Front shocks, c clip on lower control arm, front body mounts have all been suspects for that noise. Although the body mount was more of a squeaking.

Yeah I have the "Brake Pad Shift" as well when hitting reverse, cranking the wheel a bit, and after I put it back in drive and drive off I will very shortly hear some clicking near the brakes, but they told me that was also normal. Thanks!

Have you tried to loosen upper control arm bolt, and retorque? Others have done this and solved problem. Noticed on your video, it's at the change of direction. From the down to up, every time watched it over and over.

Check your sway bar link ball joint bolt tightness. I had exactly that on my Gen1, and it drove me crazy for a while until I figured it out. They seemed tight enough, but allowed just enough movement that I'd get that "click" or "tink" on bumpy surfaces. Even though I couldn't determine any play by hand, it was there. And surprising how irritating it was and how much noise it made when moving such a tiny amount.

I swear I can see the lower joint on the sway bar jerk in your 2nd vid at the 11 second mark. It seems like it has something to do with that. Look closely and you can see that end of the sway bar jerk and "vibrate" momentarily with the click sound.

To add to this, I had the sway end link loosen up on my hub carrier and cause a similar sound too. You could disco the sway altogether to eliminate it as a possibility as well.

I also have this same exact noise on my 2nd gen. It’s on suspension cycles too. Anybody ever figure this out?

That was happening to my 2018 Tacoma 4WD TRD Sport every time I went over a bump/dip. Took it in to the dealer they said both struts were bad, took a whole day to work on car rides like brand new and no tick click noise anymore

I have a 2019 TRD Off Road that is having the same noise. Which I have had back to the dealer 4 times and the dealer can’t “duplicate” the issue. Which on the last visit the Toyota Field Engineer was present to drive my truck which I had sent 4 videos to of my truck and the noise. I am now filing a Lemon Law Claim for buy back of my truck. (VA lemon law is if they can’t fix issue after 3 visits you can file) you guys should look into this too.

I apologize for resurrecting such an old thread, but were you ever able to find the solution to this?

Check the lower mounting point for the struts. I had blown bushings with my 5100s and it sounded similar to this when I went over large bumps. Took me forever to figure it out.

Can you rock the truck making the suspension cycle a bit and duplicate the noise?

Thanks, I'll check those bushings this evening.

When I rock the truck I cannot duplicate the noise, but when driving, even the slightest bump or a gentle roll in the road will make it click. It's not terribly loud, but it doesn't take much to set it off. I'll see if I can get a video.
