I replaced my rear 5100s with the 5160s over the weekend. the lower shock mount bolt thread was stripped on one side, so I had to pick up new hardware to finish up the install and be able to drive my truck to work. I went to HD and found some Class 10.9/10 hardware and used it on both sides. They didn't have the M12 bolt in fine thread, only coarse, so that what I went with. I used an M12x1.75, 60mm bolt, nut, and split washer, all class 10 or 10.9. The flat washer is class 8, as far as I can tell, I couldn't find a class 10 flat washer. I used blue loctite on the nut. Pics below. the bolt and nut are not flanged like the factory hardware.

My question is if this is good to keep in there permanently? Or should I order the bolts, washers, and nuts, from toyota using their matching part numbers?

It's not how I'd run it because I'm a weirdo like that, but from a technical perspective it should ride just fine. I probably would have used a nylon nut though for some additional peace of mind.

Dude, I’m so sorry I didn’t hit you back up about helping you out with this stuff. I got Covid early last week and was swamped with work before that.

seems like you have everything under control though. As far as the bolt you put in, that’s totally fine and you don’t need to replace it. I do however agree with @memario1214 on the nylock nut. Split washers are dumb. Nylocks work so much better.

yea, I looked for nylock nuts at home depot, but the drawers with the hardware were in such a disorganized state (none of the labels matched what was inside, and even within the bins, nothing was where it was supposed to be), I'm lucky I found the right size and class bolts and matching nuts. I kind of just went with what I could find at the time, since it was after work, I was running out of daylight, and just wanted to button it all back up so my wife wouldn't have to drive me to and from work the next day also.

Next time I'm in a hardware store I'll look for the right size nylocks and replace that nut just for extra peace of mind.

oh man, sorry to hear you got covid, are you feeling better now?

No worries on not hitting me back, I'm not in a rush for that project, this is a different one. I DM'ed you about the front end. This was just a shock replacement in the rears, I was able to snag a pair of 5160s for a decent deal from another user here, so I was just installing them.

I guess my main question is about whether the bolt/washer combination I used is ok compared to the flanged bolt/nut/washer that comes with the factory setup?
