    Hi Gang,

I have a first generation Taco that is in need of new shocks.

I have a couple of questions.

My 04 DC has 115K on it. I have the original springs in the truck.

If I replace the shocks, will it be a nice improvement even if I leave the stock springs?

I don't want to lift it or replace the springs. (I need to keep the cost down.)

Can someone recommend a good deal on 4 shocks? I don't go offroad, but I do tow a little bit.

Where can I get a great deal on 4 shocks?

    Thanks for any help!

bilstein 5100's would get my vote, ive ran them on all my trucks. theyre adjustable so u can choose to run the front at stock height or even level it if u decide to later on. great shocks and alot of people here run them.

    Thanks for the info guys.

I do not want to lift the truck.

    I don't go off road.

I do tow a little bit.

Does it make sense to go with the Bilsteins even though I am keeping the stock springs?

Is it foolish to keep the stock springs?

I really want to keep the cost down so I don't want to replace the springs if I can avoid it.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you.

If it were me, with 115k on the stock springs, I would buy new springs. The kit I linked above is adjustable from 1.5 to 3" of lift. If I was pretty firm on not wanting to lift the truck, 1.5" of lift is not THAT bad, at least to me :roll eyes:

One other question I had, is how often to you tow per year? Boat? Motorycles? Haul wood? For example, I haul a 20' pontoon boat twice a year, friends boats, motorcycles, dirt bikes, wood; I am in the process of upgrading my AAL to a brand new leaf pack. So it depends how often you tow etc.

    Thanks Geekhouse.

I do tow a little bit. (Dirt Bikes & Camper)

I have another question for you.

I can get a set of brand new rear Emu shocks for 60 bucks.

I can also get a brand new set of rear Emu springs for 180 bucks.

I saw a set of front Emu coil springs on Ebay for a good price. (881's)

If I were to buy a set of front shocks...........maybe 5100's......would that be a good call?

I need to keep the cost down.

My other issue is that I feel like I can do the rear shocks myself, maybe the front shocks too, but I am concerned about trying to install the rear springs myself.

    Thanks for any input!

I'm all for ways to save money; it just means I can buy more stuff for the truck! :headbang: But just remember, you get what you pay for lol just make sure they fit your model truck, ESPECIALLY buying through eBay ;) I know some people on here run 88x's with 5100's. This might be a good link for you to try:
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-tacomas/141055-old-man-emu-setups-1st-gen.html

You can always call and work with them to get exactly what you want. Great customer service, good prices and fast shipping. For the install, you can always post on here to have some local guys come out and help. Could only cost you pizza, beer, and one day's work. If you want another set of eyes to check out what you found online, PM me the links.
