I need to replace the shocks/springs on my 97 tacoma 4x4 that is about to hit 300k. I would ideally like to go for the strut/spring combo because it is easier to install but the only real brands I am seeing available for that is moog/monroe which seems kinda meh quality. The bilstein 5100 with eibach springs seems like the more popular quality combo. Downside is you gotta deal with compressing the springs.

This is just my wife's daily driver. Very light to no 4x4 duties. Rarely load the bed with heavy loads. I am leaning toward bilstein/eibach combo but was concerned about the ride being a bit harsh. Just wanted to get some 2nd opinions from you guys before I took the plunge. Really hard to decide which route to go since it is basically just a pavement queen. Appreciate any input. Thanks guys :)

I just replaced my stock TRD springs/shocks with 880s and OME shocks.

Night and day difference. I gained 3/4" of lift, which is exactly what I wanted.

In addition, my TRD shocks were brand new when I replaced them with the above. TRD Bilstein shocks are cheap.

I have the v6 and a slightly heavier than stock bumper, so your results might vary.

You can get them pre assembled before they're shipped so you don't need a spring compressor

Talk to Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road on here. She'll hook you up. PM her what you need or just describe to her what you wrote above on your original post and she'll get you dialed in.

If you don't need it to do anything other than drive to work and back with no real off-road or hauling I would just get basic struts and shocks from the parts store. Gabriel, KYB or basic Bilsteins. No need really for anything else. Save your money.
