If you are reusing your original sensors, you should only need to do the simple reset procedure using the button under the dash (instructions are in the owners manual).

I agree. Lots of people need new tires but not wheels. Save the boxes from your new wheels and sell them on ebay or the for sale section of these forums. I buy a second set of wheels to mount snow tires so I want rims but have no interest in the tires.

Oh, you just put the same ones into new wheels. We have to swap and mount both sets of TPMS into each other's wheels. They're quoting 100/set of wheels.

They charged you 19.99 just to read the codes so you can program or 19.99 to read the codes AND program?

    Too few to list.
They charged me $19.99 to read and reprogram my TPMS as they were from another Tacoma.

That is awesome. I'll have to give them a call. A different toyota dealer quoted me $150 to this exact same thing.

Curious about this. I want to swap my spare wheel with an oem for rotating.

If I add a 5th TPMS to the spare I want to have control over what sensors are being read in the dash. I read the whole thread here and the TPMS tool Is nice but expensive for a once in a while use.

So I'm curious if anyone has tried this before:

When running (5) TPMS, (1) in the spare, if you remove the spare and place far away out of range, then reset the TPMS using the button under the dash. Will the ECU pickup the (4) TPMS? Or will it pickup the 5th TPMS after you install the spare in the spare tire bay?

As far as I know, the truck's ECU will only accept 4 TPMS ID's at a time so it will read the four that were programmed in and won't care about the 5th in the spare. The truck is only going to look for the four sensors that it knows about. If you want to use the spare in rotation, you will need the programming tool to add that ID to the ECU and remove the ID that is now your spare. That's how I understand it.

    kicking up an old thread...

if I broke one TPMS and replace the OEM with a knockoff can I program the TPMS reader so that 1 TPMS is aftermarket and 3 are OEM?

or is it an all 4 have to be either OEM or Aftermarket?

    thanks,

I would think as long as the replacement is compatible then you should be good to go.

I got new tires, and ordered sensors from eBay https://ebay.to/2MPaDqy

Took it to pepboys and they charged 15.99 to program all 4! Working great!

Deflate old tire, push tire down, remove sensor, inflate tire.

Deflate new tire, push tire down, put sensor in, inflate tire.

I have a '19 SR with steel wheels. It is my understanding your,

"Deflate old tire, push tire down, remove sensor, inflate tire.

Deflate new tire, push tire down, put sensor in, inflate tire"

will not work in OEM alloy wheels.

It worked on mine. Went from stock TRD OR wheels to TRD PRO wheels.

Have a 2015 that I put a set of 2018 OR wheels and tires on. Didn't swap sensors because tires were already mounted. Stealership wanted $105 to break down the tires and read the sensor Id's. Was told that was the only way to get them. Took truck to tire store, they read the Id's and attempted to program to the truck. I say attempted because they never got the light to go off. It flashes for couple seconds then is solid. When codes were checked it showed C2126. Anyone know what might be the problem.

Also after spending roughly 45 minutes working on it I was not charged anything. Said it was a free service and apologized for not getting the light to go out.
