The awesome guys at Front Range Offroad said that they would do a small production run of First Gen sway bar disconnects for us if we could get 10 or more people to commit. The cost, assuming we get 10 takers, will be $150 for a pair.

Please indicate whether you'd like a set, and please only do so if you're really willing to pony up the $150. I don't want to tell them that we have 10 buyers and then only get 7 people paying.

This is one of the least expensive ways to get more trail performance out of your truck, and it's way safer than removing the sway bar if you're going to be doing highway driving.

I'd buy 9 of them now if they were 2nd Gen.

If you measure center to center on the link, they will see if they can do something for 2nd Gen rigs. If doable, they'd want to do a run of 10 for 2nd Gen, too. But that should be easy if you'll buy 9 :)

so what do you do with the sway bar once you've disconnected the ends? won't it hit when the suspension cycles? is the $150 for a pair or just one side?

Price is for a pair. I edited the original post and added that. Thanks.

According to Front Range Off Road Fab
"most people just carry a small bungee cord to hold it up out of the way"

I've never used them, however, so that's a great question.

You know you want a set....

    Hey OP
Can you post a picture of these installed on a 1st gen Tacoma. Even better, a video of the disconnects being removed.
    Thanks

I'm not sure what "center to center on the link" means, but I'll do it asap if you explain/show it to me. (Kind of worried I wouldn't trust my measurements, though) I'll also pimp the deal on a new thread for 2nd gens. Also, any pics or video of these in action?

If I remember correctly, there are no swaybar quick disconnects for 2nd gen due to the fact that the sway bar will always get in the way... It's not like the jeeps where you disconnect it, move it and tie it to something so it doesn't move...

What I remember is that there was someone trying to design a complete sway bar, I'll look for the link!

I don't believe this will work for 01-04 1st Gens either. i think the say bar would also always be hitting something for those model years as well

Yep, that's the biggest problem. No place for it to go. If you try to swing the bar up, the spindle, tires and UCA will hit it, if you go down, it will be on the axle.
I think the only real option is the type that leaves the ends in place and splits the swaybar in two pieces allowing them to move independently. The problem with those types are that there is really no space at the center section of the bar either. I have been trying to come up with a solution too, and even have a prototype to test out, but I temporarily lost interest :D

I thought about making some disconnects but then I just removed the sway bar instead.

That, and the sway bar is spring steel. So you can't just go and weld two flanges in the middle of the bar to unbolt and "disco" it. You run the risk of making the sway bar brittle around the welds and it fracturing while it's connected and you are in a turn.

Unless you make a whole new 2-piece bar..spring steel is no fun to work with

For $150 I would remove the bar manually. Or just leave it off and be a man.
