    Not gonna work because the bar would need two more supports, one on each side of the coupling, when it's decoupled.

    No, it'll support it. It acts as a bearing when you loosen the bolts. When the bolts are tight, it should lock together. Just not sure if it will have enough strength to keep it from slipping when locked.

    Just loosen the bolts to be free, then tighten them down when on level ground.

    I wanted to change the screws to some high grade socket cap screws so can use a long hex driver to easily uncouple it.

    :thumbsup: Wasn't aware of the internals. Yes you would need to weld the coupling to the bar. I don't think even a split collar would hold.

    It's been done before. The fabricator wasn't willing to sell many for liability reasons. Unlike all the off-road armor, the seller can't reasonably put a "off-road use only" disclaimer on a sway bar disconnect. If the welds break while the truck is turning a corner, the sudden release can cause a rollover.

    That's why I decided not to persue my design. If it did slip while cornering and let lose all of a sudden, you're fuct...

    There is an alternative solution that uses 100% off-the-shelf hardware with no welding, but I think it will be noisy as fuck when disconnected:



    Flexing in a cemetery. :laugh:

    What's the point of removing the swaybar on a street queen? Usually it's removed to improve articulation over uneven surfaces.

    I also am curious how many have a panhard bar, or other form of lateral axle limiting device?

    I know that the Dodge has a 4-link setup.

    The Tacoma has neither sway bar, nor pan hard.

    4Runners have panhard bars, and multi link suspension. They handle much better than the Tacoma.

    My truck definitely has more body roll with 885s and Dakars (full pack with AAL) than it did with stock coils at 1.75 and the rear lifted with air bags. On our shitty roads, and off road, it drives much more smoothly now. Truck is close to 6000 pounds - that's important info.

    So in watching the video, when link was disconnected, it looked like the noise was primarily generated by that free floating brass hex coupler/spacer. I don't know what else to call it. It seemed to bounce up and fall back down along the axis of the rod (sway bar link). Why not apply $0.10 of duck tape to keep it in place? I'm probably missing something, but that's what it looked like to me.

    and yeah ROFL at wheeling in the cemetery! :laugh:

    I was thinking about leaving the bolt threaded, and just turn the nut up to the top of the bolt. Snug it down, and no rattles.

    Now to find those eye-bolts...
