Not saying the OP did anything I doubt it but there's also damage from the lip of the tailgate center of tail gate and the bumper, like in a line there and it looks like a pretty hard hit like the whole tail gate is bent in. Another lifted truck or a dump truck... something like that.

there still has to be a base to a light pole and since the bumper sticks out farther then the bed the bumper would make first contact.

that also seems like a valid possibility but the way the dents are alligned perfectly in a straight line, idk it seems kinda "crowbar-ish"

Bumper has damage in a line straight down from the lip of the tail gate. Same with the center of the tail gate..... I'd have called the police on the spot.... otherwise = suspicious.

Still doubtful, at the point of impact being heavy enough to damage the tailgate and not the tonneau?

i see the spot on the bumper, looks almost like some thing was hit/pushed into the bumper and then smacked the top of the tailgate.

I want to see pictures of the inside of the tailgate now. I'm beating a dead horse saying it's a break in again. But I want to really get an idea as if there was any pulling inward.

That or a piece of heavy equipment. They wouldn't notice if they hit it in a big steel machine.

This is why a dash cam (front and rear) is absolutely worth it's weight.

There's no crease in the rear bumper but some damage, like the offending vehicle or whatever skimmed the top of the bumper and whacked the tailgate pretty hard and the offending whatever had something sticking out up pretty high - top of tail gate high.

Not very many vehicles have that ... doesn't look like any paint was left either so maybe a huge ass chrome bumper from a large truck.

I think it looks just like a crowbar prying. The extra dents on the back....maybe guy was mad there wasn't anything inside or he wasn't getting in.
