So while changing my diff fluids today, first off, ECGS needs to learn how to use a fawking torque wrench :smack: My drain plug on my front diff was tighter than Hellen Keller...smh I also noticed a bit of gear oil on the pass side of the diff next to where the cv goes in. There was also moisture on my skid in this location. Is it possible that this is just from the fill, or could it be a leak? :goingcrazy:

I'd clean the spot up (brake cleaner and shop rags work great) and inspect it daily to see if the moisture shows up again.

There'll probably be a little fluid laying around from disassembly/re-install. Just clean it up and see if it comes back. If it does come back, keep an eye on it to determine if it's enough to care about yet, or if you wanna wait til it gets worse.

Yeah I am going to keep my eye on it, but if that shit is still leaking, ECGS will be getting a call. When you changed your fluids, was your fill plug on your front diff over torqued?

Nah, it was in there solid, but I wouldn't say overtorqued.

I would only call 'em if it's a massive leak. I noticed a couple weeks ago my pinion seal let out a trickle of diff oil that ran down the housing after a long highway trip ~2 hrs. It was never a big enough leak to drip on the ground, and it only happened that once. I think it's just the heavier weight oil and a little extra heat from the gear break-in process expanding everything.

So, after finally getting the fluids changed and driving normally, HOLY JESUS!!!!! I finally remember what it was like to drive the truck off the lot again! So much torque and power back. This is without a doubt worth every penny. If you have 33"+ tires and you don't have this mod, you are doing yourself an injustice! Damn I am glad I copied JA!

That is funny because that is all i could think about when I was struggling to get mine to break free. maybe boyd needs to put his on a lift and put a pipe on a breaker bar to get his off.:notsure: the impact is good and all, but sometimes that is what it takes

I seriously wouldn't worry about it. What's probably happening is when the diff heats up, some things expand and the seal loses a teensy tiny bit of contact and drips a couple drops. Then it goes away again when the diff cools.

Remember, you just put in a new fill of gear oil, so you're way topped off and pressure in the diff is going to be the highest it ever is.

I wouldn't fuck with it. There's always the chance when messing with seals that you can ding up the mounting location, break hardware, etc. that makes remounting hard to impossible. If it's only leaking a drop or two after each drive, just top it off once a year and forget about it.

Better yet, with the kind of wheeling we're doing, change it annually. It'll need it that often after fighting with all the dust, water, etc. on the trails, not to mention the breakdown in the oil from hard use...especially all the water you mess with up there in Joizy.

Yeah, I haven't put my skid on yet still. I check it everytime I drive it and no issues so far. I really didn't want to have to make that drive down to Raleigh again...
