Up here in the North, a chainsaw and chisel/plane make for some nice bumpers..... Toyota guys are usually better at this than the FERD and Dodge guys....

@tacoma16 I have been prepping the wife with as much youtube off road stuff as I can get her to watch with me. 4WD action, dirt everyday and a few others she enjoys. Now that the lift is complete on the rig, I just need some simple gear (recovery boards, gas cans) to participate in this adventure. She has agreed that she would like to go on something like this if I think we can do it.

So id say I am onboard for this.

Got the Swisha Loop R1 GPS files from Ted at Gravel Travel today.

Loaded them into my GPS app, they are pretty legit routes.

So for GPS, I have been looking into this for awhile now. I was not sure if I wanted a dedicated GPS unit and what benefits having one would give me. As far as I can tell from research, the only advantage to having say a Garmin hand held GPS unit is accuracy. They can get you in like 1 foot of where you should be, our tablet might be off by 10 feet. Not a problem as I see it, the tablet is so much more useful than just a GPS unit.

We will be using my wifes 10" Asus tablet, in combination with the GiaGPS app (https://www.gaiagps.com) This app is sweet AF. Load GPX files, have what ever overlay you want (Satellite, topo). Save tracks to GPX files, backup all data to the site so you can have multiple devices all synced with the same data. Pretty impressed so far. Last step is mounting the tablet where the wife wants it for Navigation.

I have a garmin 64st and I have used the Gia app on a iPad. They both have their place. I now run up to 3 gps devices in the truck. A general driving gps. The iPad which does double duty of road and offload as I can load specific routes. Then I carry the garmin handheld when I go hiking or need to be super accurate since its a bit easier to carry around. Plus for certain trips its nice to use the trackback feature and some of the other garmin features.

For mounting I use ram mounts. Ill grab a link for ya

I have this mounted on the passenger side for karoline to navigate for me.

Yea only time will tell if the Gia GPS does what I want.

I just got all my RAM mount stuff for my phone at the bottom of the grab handle on the driver side.

Check out view ranger. Can download area so you can use offline as well.

I've been running it on my phone and moving to tablet. Going to use the go pro mount to hold tablet now.

I will go take a peek at the view ranger see what it offers.

I have a ram ball in the same spot as the Turds(go pro mount), since I installed the rear view mirror riser. So I might play with what goes where a bit, see how I like shit placed.

Yea this is exactly what I just got, but I dont think the phone holder is big enough for the Asus tablet.

Tablet is in the mail right now, so I cant even jab it in to check the fit.

Should we start setting a proper date so we can work schedules in advance? Try and establish what works for everyone.

Would probably be the responsible thing to do. I was thinking sometime in July. Maybe the third week?

Since we have a lot of people interested we could also separate out as well. Have two runs or something.
