Best place to put wires through firewall in 3rd Gen?

Decided to go the switch-pro route

There is a small rubber plug right behind the brake fluid tank, use a needle nose pliers to pull it out and punch through the firewall material. It will look like this:

Interested in those wire labels. Did you custom print those?

Yes, following the lead of @taco_pnw back in the first pages of this thread. Dyno label maker and 1/2" heat shrink tube.

I've got one of the high end Dyno lable makers in storage in a different town and didn't feel like driving and digging for it, so just purchased a cheapie for $20 off of Amazon for this project, and it worked just fine.

I'd recommend it. When all is said and done there will be a lot of wires running around that area (and a few tapped into the fuse block), and the labels will make things much easier in the future should the time come to move things around or troubleshoot. Plus it just flat out makes for a nice and clean looking install.

that plug is right behind the clutch bracket on manual cars, its a bitch to get thru. I did it anyways because I felt like its still better than tearing a hole in the larger rubber grommet for the main harness lower down.

Followed the lead of @taco_pnw & @sagexp and got mine wired up. Now I need some time to undo all my existing wiring and put it on here:

I am running mine to my factory battery per the instructions. I have been curious if it’s ok to mount elsewhere as well. Think I might mount it on my blue sea terminal block like the member above.

I am a newb with wiring etc and I found it pretty easy and actually fun. The instructions sent with the SP are very detailed and straight forward, and if you have any issues people here are super helpful/also heard their customer service is great.

Do you know what size the wire sleeve you’re using is/where you got it? Looks clean.

The loom came with the switch pro but I did go to an electrical store to grab an extra couple feet just to make sure I had enough. Not sure what size it is. I just said, “I need two more feet of this”

Paterick i wanted to register just to thank you for your pictures. It made installing the SP-9100 Switch Pros panel a lot easier on my 2017 Tacoma.

I’m really liking this SP-9100 panel. So far I have air-horns, compressor, and lower grill LEDs wired and looking at more to add soon. The Bluetooth makes it extremely easy to program. I followed another members lead and mounted the keypad just in front of the sunroof where it’s easy to see without the steering wheel getting in the way. I thought it was a simple install compared to the air-horns where the grill and headlight assemblies had to be removed to hide the 3-horns.

So what’s the best wat for putting the three (blue, white, pink) wires through the fuse box?

Looking at the fuse box from the drivers side I carefully drilled a 1/4” hole in the right rear corner from top to bottom. Once the wires were in place a dab of silicone sealant made everything watertight once again. Watch other wires as you drill, caution is advised.

I went through the factory fitting here:

    20190323_145704.jpg

It required undoing a clip, pulling that bushing out, cutting through the tape at the tail of the bushing so I could open it, then inserting the wiring for the SP, snapping it back closed, and using a rubber tape wrap to re-wrap the bushing around the wire bundle.

Not as bad as it sounds, it will make sense once you look at it. Worth the minor hassle to keep things nice, splash proof, and factory like.

Edited to add: I went through the additional trouble of doing it this way since I'll be under warranty for a while yet. With the various electrical gremlins that pop up on these vehicles sometimes, I did not want anything which wasn't completely reversible or which could in any way be suspected as a contributing cause to a ECU or other electrical type issue.

You can see it at the left area of the yellow circle. It was either a clip, or a small rail for the bushing to slide down onto. I don't recall exactly, but it wasn't too hard to get out. It pulls straight up.

Once you get it up and can take a look at it, you'll see how it is a split bushing wrapped with tape. Carefully slice or pull the tape away, and the split bushing pops right open. Insert your wires, snap it back closed, re-wrap with rubber tape or electrical tape, and push the bushing back down into its socket / post.

Probably goes without saying, but make sure you have the battery disconnected when poking around in there!

Shout out to @sagexp and @HiProofProducts for helping out! @sagexp way is cleaner but I got frustrated on trying to do his way and drilled but now after a few PM’s I understand how to do it.

Drilled through here and filled with silicone after wires & loom went through.
