the light blue still needs to be tied in to acc on power. as thats who it will know what type of power it has. yellow wire is for your lights or what ever you hook up..

honestly never tried it I doubt it since you would have to wire into the dash lights in the cab. Switch pro has its own dimming with in the app or fallowing the program card. The yellow wire just tells it. You have your lights on when driving at night so it will dim the SP to what brightness you want.

Depending how you program the SP will answer your second question. There are setting if you want it to run off battery or not. meaning one switch or all could stay on when the truck is off if you choose. Example my rock lights are set up this way so I can have lights On around the truck at camp.

    hope that helps.

yes, I have done the mods
The switchpro backlight does not dim with the dash lights dimmer switch - the switchpro just watches that wire for any signal so it knows when to switch the backlight to the darker setting, so even if you wired the yellow wire into your dimmer circuit, it still wouldn't match. You can program what level of dimming you want using the app, but it doesn't sense your dimmer switch.

Also using the app, you can program each switch individually to be always hot or only hot with ACC power. But you can activate any switch at any time when you bluetooth in using the app, regardless of whether the switch is set to always hot or ACC.

Possibly a dumb question, but here goes: How important is it to rig one of the external trigger wires so it tells the SwitchPro when the truck is turned on?

I know the 9100 has 2 external triggers. I plan on wiring one trigger up to the low beam fuse so I can use the Master On/Off function with my foglights, which is necessary to pass state inspection. Similarly, I want to hook up the remaining external trigger to the high beam fuse so I can use the same Master On/Off function for my auxiliary high beam LEDs. That leaves me with no external triggers left to tell the SwitchPro when the truck is running. Big deal or not really?

If you have a 9100 you’d get a better answer in that thread. Or call their support number, we called recently to get help with a non responsive switch panel and the person we talked to was quite patient and extremely knowledgeable.

I don't have anything yet, and I was under the impression that the 8100 had 2 external trigger wires.

You will have a hard time finding a new 8100 as it was replaced about 3 years ago. A second hand one may bring its own set of problems depending on prior usage.

the 8100, basically has two wires one blue one yellow.

Yellow is to only trigger or tell the sp you have turned on your lights so it dims the display unit in the truck.

Blue, is for saying the engine is on that you have started the truck so it knows to power on. This allows you to program the switches for battery only and or only functioning when the truck is running. Ext...

Not sure on the 9001, but assuming its similar.

ok read into this more the 9100 new model has the external trigger this is a new feature if you want to have this you will need to buy the sp9100.

the 8100 does not have this feature!

nope i don't have any trigger wires that can control a function or limit a switch on my 8100. Cool feature see the reason they added it in for states with DOT requirements or a need for switches only being available for certain conditions you need.

Reading the instructions it looks like the 8100 has ignition and lights as inputs and the 9100 has ignition plus two other input triggers.

OH. I'm a huge idiot. I thought the 9100 only had ignition and lights. My mistake gents.

Sorry for the necro-bump, but I'm wondering if anyone with an 8100 has had any bluetooth issues lately? Mine used to work fine, but after an app update or two it doesn't even see my unit any more. No blue light on the keypad either.

I called the company and it gets weirder; I KNOW that I used to be able to program my unit using the app. You could change all the button functions like strobe, flash, memory ect. Switch Pros is saying that was never a feature on the 8100. And yes, I definately have the 8100. I bought one as soon as they came out!

Anyway, just curious how everyone's bluetooth is working.
