Is the noise indicative of a problem?

So.......replacing the HPFP only temporarily eliminates the chirping?

Possibly not. It’s more indicative of a poor design.

They told me after mine was replaced that the noise wasn't eliminated but a lot better. It has a mechanical click but nothing like before where my pump had a distinguished high pitched "chirp". It would be nice to hear back if @Rotekk could elaborate a little more on his noise. Toyota's haven't been known to be the most beautiful sounding engines.

Not to stir shit up but I don’t know how on earth anyone could tolerate a diesel version of this truck with all the bitching people do about these kind of noises!

It's not the worse thing this truck has done to me. I put about half a tank through it and it started making the same noise. Maybe I just got another one or a refurb? Not sure. Don't care? I don't know? Emotionally I'm pretty depleted when it comes to this truck.

This came back, rear end is seeping and my howl has gotten louder after the TSB. I really can't even make this stuff up at this point.
What I will tell you is my TRD exhaust is solid and I am enjoying my new Subaru tweeters so I do have that going for me. That and a logic reset on the transmission stopped it from slamming in to first for the time being.

Hopefully Y'all have better luck than me. When I go in tomorrow to have them snap a pic of my rear diff leak I am going to request a service record on the HPFP swap and compare part #s.

Found it got uploaded to TacomaOwners already.

That's what they put in. So I guess it looks right? I guess I'll live.

I’d keep wearing the dealer out until they make it right. Drop it off at the dealer and tell corporate you need a rental. If they can’t fix all the issues, maybe lemon law will help you get another Taco, or whatever you want. Sorry to hear that man. I love my truck, but Toyota makes it pretty hard on its customers.

Yeah no official plans for a diesel so . There's bitching about a specific "chirp" on a specific part, I'm not sure where you're hearing about other noises? So yeah you are trying to :stirthepot:

There’s definitely a sizable portion of people coveting a diesel option. As far as other noises that people complain about: leaf springs, diff whine, needle bearing, door seals, lca howl. Those are the ones that come to mind immediately and I’m not saying they’re good features, what am saying is what I said in my last post. I’m saying all this light heartedly, and no, I’m really not trying to :stirthepot:. I just had a little comment to make.

Question. Anyone with the chirping hear it increase when hitting small road bumps? At idle I can open my hood and hear small chirping from the pump but while driving I can hear chirping out of my passenger window going over small bumps.

The diesel chattering would drown out all the other noises.

X2, plus I think a Diesel buyer would expect the engine to make noise.

Just diagnosed with this today. Took it in because it sounded like a bad pulley bearing. They said the HPFP would be replaced under the TSB but had to order it from LA and the soonest they can do it is next Friday. The chirping is quite annoying since I primarily drive with the windows down and it's much worse than any of my other "loud" engines with direct injection (BMW and Cummins).

Now if only I could figure out why there is so much wind/road noise it sounds like I'm missing a rear window. I'm constantly checking to make sure the rear window is closed.

Maybe the the A/C door in the back of the cab? You can shut it by turning on the recirculating air button in between the temp & vent position knobs. Fan doesn't need to be on, but it has to be in a dash vent setting I believe

Drive down the highway and cycle between the recirculate button on and off. After a few secs, the cab should get quieter with recirculate on, when the cab vents close. Even with the recirculate on, these trucks are not insulated well. The majority of the cab noise comes from the back wall and rear doors. My second gen was even louder.

Thanks to both of you! I never would have considered that recirc would have vents in the back. I typically don't use recirc so that could be the problem. I'll give it a shot!

Bumping this thread since this issue is important. Go get your trucks looked at. Suspect a bad pulley bearing like mentioned above, instead of waving the TSB in their face. They will listen for the sound and if they find it themselves are much more likely to fix it. Be courteous, patient, and professional for best results. We need more people getting this issue fixed or at least making Toyota spend some of their $2 billion in cash sorting out this rushed product.

Mine just started doing it this past weekend. Can't wait to spend hours at the dealer so they can confirm and then bring it back in again after the parts come in. Yay

Just got mine fixed Friday morning. Took about an hour. No more squealing. It did take a week to get to me though since the part had to come from LA. My dealer was pretty good to work with, just told them I think a pulley is bad due to the squealing and within an hour they diagnosed the HPFP.
