Anyone know if anyone sells a Trussing kit for our 3rd gen rear axles?

I'm about to buy a new housing, make some modifications to it, and swap it with my stock one.

    Thinks I had in mind:
    -Strength axle
    -Replace rear axle seals
    -Move lower shock mounts
    -Strengthen all links
    -Strip and paint

I wish I had a welding class at my high school. I really need to get a welder, there are so many projects I want to get done.

IMO trussing your rear would give it more strength for sure but I don't really think it needs it. You're running a "small" 33 with those 255's and aren't putting much stress on the whole system. Since yours is not an elocked rear they are dime a dozen and can be easily replaced if you end up bending yours. Also it seems like most guys bend the axle shafts just as easy and trussing won't help. I know you're bumping up to 35's eventually but I think a gas tank skid, rear bumper, new rear lca's, lotus type mounts or rear diff skid would be awesome to make.

I did the math, and it ended up making more sense to pay Savage to build me a rear bumper because he gives me discounts for being a repeat customer. Gas Tank skid I think I can do. I'll probably beef up some links too.

I wouldn't bother with trussing the axle. They are strong enough to do what we ask of them and its kinda tricky to do since we have all the link mounts and all the ebrake stuff on the housing. Doing a brace inbetween the upper link mounts might be beneficial though.

    And go full floater :D

I'm thinking we need to start a thread on "When to make a build thread" on T4R.

Does anyone else think it's retarded when newbs gets on the forum, and within 20 posts create a build thread? You open the damn thing and it goes like this...

    Here's my 4Runner... :p

    Some plastidip... :D

    Removed my running boards...

Build thread! Word! Sick status! :jerkoff:

And that's it... no more building occurs.

Says the guy who has three...haha

I agree to an extent. It is annoying to see so many pop up an all they have is plasti dip and running board removal but it is nice to have somewhere from the beginning to keep track of what you've done. Then you can accurately and easily keep everything in chronological order. I just hate when people start a build thead when they've done a ton to their 4runner already and dont really update it or put anything in their posts. They start to create it and just create a shell of a build.

I didn't create a build till I had already lifted it and had something substantial to post. Even now I don't keep bumping it up with every little thing I do since no one cares that I changed my oil and cleaned my air filter.

Yeah, I've got three. But 2/3 are full tilt BUILD THREADS with actual building of a vehicle inside.

Granted, the thread I made for my Wife's 4Runner is a little bit thin on content, but even that one has much more work done to it than most of these new builds popping up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the guys who start one to keep track of everything from day 1.... and then continue to build up the rig.

The ones that I'm talking about are the threads that just go nowhere... plastidip... boards off.... nothing. Those aren't builds. I guess what I'm getting at is that if they start a thread with the full intention of creating a build over time, and start humbly.... COOL! I think that's awesome. But alot of these build threads are created by owners who have no intention fo really building up their rigs, but merely create a build thread because they think it's the cool thing to do.

Facebook mentality... I'm a living sub-50 year old human, therefore I must have facebook. I own a 4Runner, therefore I must have a build thread.

The ones that you're talking about are really just bragging posts. Guys just want to brag on their truck a little bit, and I'm cool with that because they put in enough effort to actually qualify as a build.

RE bumping a build thread every time you hit a cool bug driving down the road... that's another topic. You do bump yours every time you get a new bracket for your supercharger though.
