I figured it out and I'm pissed right now! I have had the truck LESS than 2 months and this happens. I'll be contacting the dealer today.

They look pretty sweet. I really hope they put a legitimate tire on the 4runner though. Right now it's TBD, but they better not throw some highway or 31" tire on there.

It throws a CEL and turns on all the VSC lights that come on when you do the mod for the 4th gens. When the CEL comes on it loses all it's power and is hard to get above 30 mph. It is the secondary air injection pump that has gone bad and the debris from it breaking goes through the system and messes up the valves, there are three of them...
EDIT: it costs roughly 2-4k to fix the issue

Went to go check out the Hankook MT's I was supposed to buy. I get there and immediately see that they are not the 1000 miles or less driven on them. Date stamp is from 2011 and they each have about 11-12/32 when 19/32 is new. Two are worn even and look good besides some tiny cracking. I then pull each one down and find this...

    5D2D60D2-4285-4482-AB24-864983EF62A3_zps_70a812dbf6e910ae9464b796cb436c8b300995c9.jpg

The tires has a giant ring about 1/2" deep on the sidewall. Another one has one, but it's only 1/4" deep. I was blown away that the guy could advertise them as brand new like this. I asked the workers at the shop if they what they thought and they told me it's fine and that what's you get buying used tires...definitely won't ever go back to that shop.

LOL. All I can say is WOW! They probably pulled them off the truck for the reasons you saw and told the owner he need new tires, only now to turn around and resell them for a profit.
I believe that groove is from a chevy front end- I've seen some trucks where the backspace on the wheel is a little too much and the sidewall rubs the knuckle/spindle. Never saw one THAT bad though.

Yeah, I was blown away, but to clarify it wasn't the shops tires. A guy from Craigslist was selling them and dropped them at the shop for me to look at. I was just amazed the shop tried to say they were fine. No way I would ever put a tire like that on my 4runner.

BTW, it was from a Tacoma...

Ok, I have seen that one, but I'm a little confused. You are saying when you activate the switch it causes all the problems, or since the install you are having issues? Have you tried removing it? How would this be the dealer's fault?

I have the vsc disable switch that goes to the ecu in the passenger kick pannel and have never had any issues.

That's a bummer. What size and price were they selling for?

I just got 5 of the 295s for $1050 OTD from discount tire matching online pricing.

They were 4 285/70/17 for $650. The guy was nuts with the price though in that condition.

What site did you price match from?

I haven't had a problem since installing that switch. The switch works great! When the CEL is on it throws those lights on also. I think it's part if the system but idk :notsure: I'll post the link whenever the forum starts working again!
