Y'all were telling me the 4runner and Tacoma make different amounts of power out of the same engine? Edmund's says they are the same HP and torque ratings

I've never talked to someone who has had both on a dyno and I see edmunds as a credible source

Check the fj against the tacoma. The fj has more power on the same engine and a very similar drive train

New 4runners make more HP because they have a newer version of the 4.0 than the tacoma.
The newer 4.0 has dual variable valve timing whereas the 4.0 in the taco only has variable valve timing.

Ok I told y'all I'd update you about my axle ideas. :goingcrazy:

So I always thought I'd swap in a dana 60, but I never thought about the pain it would be to make the brakes work... ABS and all the jazz. Plus I would have drums again...

Enter the 2nd gen Tundra 10.5 Diff. I believe it would be perfect, especially with long travel. Looky here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd...ml#post6729300

Edmunds states my 04 T4R was rated at 245hp/282ftlbs tq

    The tacoma is 236hp/266ftlbs tq

Told you the 4runner was different.

Alright, I did further research.....I compared 2011 models of the Tacoma, 4Runner, and FJC all with the 4L 5 speed Automatic.

    Tacoma - 236 hp @ 5200 rpm
    4Runner - 270 hp @ 5600 rpm
    FJC - 260 hp @ 5600 rpm

My thought is, why detune the truck? It would be doing the most hauling out of the three of them I would think. Also, could you just tune the Tacoma engine to make the power of the 4Runner?

I'm convinced it was a money saving venture. Because that t4r ran harder, pulled harder, made more power, could run on e85 and gave no fucks, AND got better mileage than my tacoma

I wouldn't say its detuning it, it's just they never put in the upgraded engine. No idea why they all get the same mileage
