Keep track of cumulative days spent at the dealer.

Start that Lemon clock, just in case. You won't be the first and certainly not the last.

Update: I just spoke with the Service Manager at the dealership and they have determined the ECU is bad. They put one in from another truck to prove this theory and everything seemed to be working. They have ordered a new ECU and should receive it tomorrow. Hopefully I will have my Taco back tomorrow evening.

That explains why dealer couldn't quickly figure it out. If it was CPS or some other sensor related failure, it would throw a corresponding error code into the ECU and dealer's diagnostic program would retrieve it easily. But in case of ECU failure, I believe there is no code for ECU failure. ECU can't diagnose itself.

Agreed. I've tried various lubes and the disc brake grease, specifically the silicon based ones provided the longest fix.

Same issue on a BMW 328xi here. Stranded, away from home at a few months from new and only ~2,500 miles on it. BMW provided a loaner, delivered on a roll back to the house and swapped out with the loaner, once repair was accomplished, the same way. It took a little over 3 weeks since the ECU needed delivered from Germany. Tho I gotta say the BMW dealership was able to diagnose the problem within an hour or so.

Update: Hopefully this is my final update as the Service Manager called and it appears replacing the ECU fixed my truck. I am going to pick it up hoping there are no lingering issues.

Hopefully the issue is history. If it was me, I would feel like I'm driving with a load of nitro glycerin until I was certain everything is ok with the truck.

Gotta love how all the Internet Mechanics have it figured out for you OP. I know, it is easy and fun to hate on the 3rd Gen's. But problems happen, that is why there is a warranty. I had a brand new, $57K Tahoe that was fully loaded that was in and out of the shop for various little trolls that wanted to make my life hell. They eventually got them and I put 80K trouble-free miles on it after. Even if it did end up being the CPS sensor they would have fixed it. I am not sure why so many people on here HATE the trucks and don't trade them off. Take the loss and move on if you don't like your truck.

Who's hating man...? We is all trying to help the OP, or whomever has issues... the unbelievable knowledge base on this forum is way more better than Toyota Engineers.... Don't ya think...eh..?:canada:

I'd take a guess from a seasoned member on here over the Service Guy/Gal at the dealer....ANY DAY...!!!:thumbsup:
