Lets say I find a 1st gen Taco with a replacement frame in it. Are these frames better than the ones made by Dana? Who made them? Thanks.

I don't think they are any better. Just new. If you find one spray some rustproofing in it where the factory should have and the whole mess can be avoided.

Cool. Thanks. I just saw a post where a guy had an 02 frame replaced and it failed inspection. The saga continues.

I have a 1996 taco just checked the frame today with a hammer and a screw driver. Bottom of the bed has holes but the frame is good. Kinda surprised for all the salt I have driven through. However, the truck was in Arizona for a while. Did lots of scheduled repairs, but the motor is awesome. No knocks...doesn't use any oil.

Unfortunately, I just became aware of the frame rot issues. Fortunate to know before I buy again!!

Still holding out hope to find an 2001-2003 "ish" Taco Standard cab 4 x 4 5 speed manual. Hard to find up here in Wisconsin with out major rust issues. I have seen more in warmer climates. Logistics becomes an issue. Thanks again bighouse01.

I just had my 01 Double Cab frame replaced last fall.
It was manufactured by Metalsa Structural Products Inc. in Owensboro, KY
The Toyota part number is 04008-30C04
It came with a very thin coating of paint on the frame that is really easy to scratch off so I plan on getting it properly undercoated and I will treat the inside of the boxed portion with RustCure 3000 which is an oily film meant to cling to metal and prevent rusting.

That rust cure stuff, is it like fluid film? Aerosol cans....if so does it come with an extended hose/wand dealio for easy application inside the frame?

Yes, it is similar to Fluid Film. You can get it in aerosol cans or in bulk cans that you use a paint sprayer to apply. I don't know if they have an extended hose, just a regular sized spray tube for the aerosol. Check their website at www.corrossionfree.com
