Does anyone know if the Ram mount for garmin devices would work with the DMM? I'm assuming it should be hoping someone can verify. Or is there a TacoGarage garmin mount? I don't see one yet.

You need to check what the ball size is on garmin devices. Standard ram is size b, aka 1"

Edit- just saw that that question was posted in 2022 :p

I can verify that it is def not 1/4 - 20 because I bought one for my Yaesu FTM 200 and it did not fit.

I ordered this and it fits fine.

Thank you for that. I assume it’ll fit all Yaesu units?

Most likely. I'm waiting to sell my FTM200 and upgrade to the FTM500 to buy a DMM and use this ball adapter. In theory, I don't see why Yaesu would change the thread on the back of remote units.

That’s a pricey unit. I have a 6000 I’ve been lazy about getting installed. This is probably the kick in the pants I need. Still need to decide on an antenna mount.

1): Mount to my Rago tie downs at the bed corners by the headrail,

    2) Buy a Rago antenna mount and hang it off by the tailgate,

    3) Buy a ditch light mount and put it up front.

Depending on antenna selection, it might influence that decision process. Still trying to figure out the antenna. I have a Gobi roof rack so could put one of the domes up there.

I daily park in a garage, so clearance is not much above roofline.

I know this thread is old, but I just installed this mount on my third gen and I love it! So much better than my cheap Amazon windshield mount that melted on the glass. I use a Ram quick grip XL with a short arm and its perfect :101010:

Here is what mine looks like. It’s just a little machined and powder coated aluminum strip. You take the radio bezel off and drill holes and bolt some plates on the inside edge. There are threaded holes for the 1” ball mount on the inside plates. There are all kinds of 1” ball mounts on Amazon and stuff. The Ram stuff is pretty nice. I have the quick grip xl rn, but I had the x grip one first. Didn’t like it because the phone could rotate side to side when it was in the mount.

Waiting on a wire to reroute the us data and this will be my first official mod!
Hope it’s as good as everyone says it is.

If you look at the top of the mount there are 2 rectangular-ish holes. You can remove the plastic and feed a wire through there to your phone.

And ya i need to do the same thing.

Yea, that's my plan but I want the data up top, no cable across the dash to reach the port. Have a head unit cable coming today :)

Have you seen this thread? This guy basically takes the port out of the connector box thingy and runs a different usb cord from the console and epoxies it to the connector box.

I did read that, I'm not creative enough to come up with my own ideas lol.
I think I will task my 3d printer for the dash part however.

Did you buy the TG ball's, RAM or "Amazon" generic stuff?

I think my mount came with 2. They are the TG branded ones. You just have to select the 1" ball mount for both in the add ons. You can get other stuff from them as well, like phone mounts and stuff. But as long as it is the same length and thread idk why it wouldnt work.

Just ordered my DMM! First mod on the 3rd Gen that will require drilling… let’s see how that goes!

    So? How did it go?

I understand drilling can be intimidating to a lot of people, but this is as far as possible from a "visible" area as ir can be. even if you had messed up holes in that area. they would be very hard to see.
I've sold 3 3rd Gen tacomas already, all with DMMs and it has never been an issue. That being said, in order to keep as low of a profile as possible, it was essential to have the threads under the plastic, so drilling was almost a necessity in order to achieve the design goals I was going after.
I didn't want my mount to look like the TPAM.
