Assuming the 4.0 in both the tundra and the tacoma are the same short block,

Why does the tundra version have 35 more hp?

So are head swaps an option to add power?

No intentions of doing this... Just curious

A member recently transplanted a Tacoma engine into his Tundra, so it might be possible, but the intake and exhaust are different, air switching valves, and other parts of the emissions system.

And since rated HP is RWHP, you may still not gain the full 35... the heads may or may not be responsible for the difference. Could also be in the trans, gearing... or even the ECU programming.

'07-09 FJ is the same as the '05-11 Tacoma 1GR. So his would have to be the same, to make a direct swap.

Also, side note. The all of the 1GR's that are NOT dual vvti are stronger than the new ones with dual vvti.

They run less compression, and have a fully counterweighted crank versus the new ones which have less counterweights.
