the ultimate is when you put full length drawers that pull out in a setup like that - allowing access to the underneath area between the wheelwells when you have the top loaded....

Ultimate? It really limits the amount of storage space. I designed this so that I could easily lower the platform in case I needed to haul something large like an appliance. With drawer sliders, the deck would be a fixed height.

If the buyer wanted a system like you suggest, it could easily be done, but it will be a compromise in flexibility.

wouldn't do that at all as long as they're not permanently fixed to the truck and were removable. you gain flexibility going either direction. my dad had similar setup and left his 4x4 gear in the drawers so it was hidden and locked away, but he could load up the bed and still have access, which you don't have in it's current setup... in addition, we could take the drawer out if needed - but either setup is nice and adds a great deal of functionality.

besides, the real limiter for carrying appliances, etc. is the shell...
