simply putting the alt. in the water isnt going to kill it

accumulation of mud/silt/debris from the water kills the alt.

Snorkels keep your intake from gaining water and hydrolocking your shiz up

Understood, I guess I'm missing something because based on the majority of responses in the first 3 pages of this thread, you'd think it was a really dumb question...

So you can deep 6 the alternator and it's not the water that would kill it, it's everything else floating around in the mud that does the truck in.

essentially yes...and i've been confused why everyone thinks this is such a dumb question as well

I wouldve initially guessed that it was the alt as well but I think theres more amiss here...like a bare wire causing a short

I think it's a defective high water sensor module. Put the garden hose to it sitting in the drive way the fan in that much water is going to throw water every where so spray every thing until it quits.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
We may be looking at this wrong considering the starter has a direct line form the + side of the battery to it.

First off, sry OP for all the BS that happened in this thread... select few of us dont take shit seriously. i understand why your mad....

But for real..... is it more than this much water?

    CIMG0861_fd23423c7a195fe81b3019866392fd1bce831418.jpg

if u were to estimate how high is the water coming up? like past the oil pan? past the crank pulley?

Im also a tech..... thinking its electrical related as well. i dont have to insult ur intelligence by telling u a short will cause the ecm to shut down. especially if it was maybe a cps? what other electrical is low that the ecm requires to run...

@ 28 inches is when it starts to cut out and @ 30 to maybe 32 inches is when it dies

    Intake air temp sensor code.

OP: If you are getting to the crank, what about an exposed crank sensor wire? According to what you said it happens when the watter is near crank level. Just an idea.

so correct me if im wrong.... if the iat is shorted or open, it sends the signal to the ecm that will tell the ecm its either something srupid like -57* or its 230* something like that. so say he runs through the water and water causes a short, ecm sees -57 and umps fuel thinking its cold as hell out.... could kill it right?
