Currently gathering estimates. Will update when I get the opinions of the body shops I trust.

I hear you. Even with the hitch, the bed managed to shift forward enough to dent the cab and crack the paint.

At least CA requires a "road test". MN we test in a hermaphroditicly sealed environment where there is no chances for other cars to scare you into backing up wrong or coming to a complete stop.

Okay, just got back from a couple body shops and one gave me an estimate just above $17,000.00, not including anything else they find. Also got a call from State Farm accepting full liability for all property damage to my truck. Let's hope that this truck doesn't isn't a total loss, as State Farm considers total losses to be damages exceeding 80% of a vehicle's Actual Value. I have to do some homework now and figure out what that is.

Until the insurance company says so, there's a chance I'll keep it and it'll get repaired. I don't find it practical to buy it back from the insurance company and get another rig. Worst case it gets totaled and I just make due with one car between the wife and I. This sh*t is depressing, and exhausting...it's only been a day since the collision.

They have to put you into a rental car for a little while regardless. I sincerely doubt they are going to fix your truck with that extensive of damage. So, they have to put you into a rental car while you are negotiating and looking for another truck.

I get it man, been there with my wife's WRX wagon, filled with awesomeness I had brought back from Japan with me.

Once the insurance company gives you the numbers, you have very little time before it's gone (if you choose that adventure). The wrx was the next day, From phone call confirming the total out to flat bed hauling it away. Once you agree to the total out, it no longer belongs to you, nor anything bolted to it.

You have received ballpark of $17k, applying the 80% value rule, your truck would need to be worth $21,250 for the repairs to even be offered.

There is more to it, especially with frame damage. Some insurance companies will total out based on that alone.

I just looked over your build thread. Spacer and AAL lift, tint, and taneau. Anything else modded? I've not, I wouldn't bother pulling stuff off. In fact it may add more value than you have into the parts.

Probably just going to pull of the tonneau and the scangauge. Literally the only things that didn't come with the truck aside from the new AAL.

Don't know if I need a new bed now, but it looks all out of wack. I have another appointment with an onsite appraiser on Monday.

IMG_20141003_165351_785.jpg I can relate to IMG_20141003_165309_514.jpg that!! 2600 miles on the first new truck I ever bought. Got rear ended by some moron from Reno texting on his phone in rush hour traffic in The SF Bay area. That was in Oct 2014. Took 3 months to get a new truck. So yeah I feel your pain. Glad no one was hurt!!

Tell me about it. Just glad I have insurance to cover the medical costs I've incurred thus far. I'm beginning to consult a few accident attorneys as well, since there may be a possibly a total loss. Last thing I want is insurance to lowball me because I'm vulnerable by going at it alone. At the end of the day, these insurance companies care more about the bottom line, especially when they are looking out for the at fault party. I can't believe I may need to do all of this just to get fair compensation for all the damages and lost time. I don't even know if retaining an attorney may even be worth it.

Just finished talking to the third party inspector, and this marks the beginning of a long road ahead. They weren't able to cut a check (as I expected) because they finally saw how extensive the damage was. Their estimate ran higher than $18,000.00, not including any supplemental repairs. The third party rep is going to do a valuation on the truck and I will run my numbers and do my research and hopefully I will get what is fair, whether it be a total loss or a full on repair. I'm now considering all legal avenues to become "whole" again. The rep also admitted that the insurance company made a mistake in having me drive to the facility for inspection. I am not driving the truck any longer until I know what the result will be.
