    Basic automotive diagnosis.

    1: pump relay getting power?
If yes, is the pump getting power?
If yes, is the fuel rail under pressure? (Get a cheap gauge to thread onto the shrader valve)

2: coil pack harness getting power?

If you have pump relay power, pump power, coil pack harness power you have combustion as all 6 packs are not bad.

At such cold temps any moisture in the fuel will be a real problem.

After you confirm fuel supply issues are non existent, top it off with 93.

My bet is also on the immobilizer, I had a spare key cut once for my truck (not knowing about the immobilizer chip in the OEM key). Only tested the key to the extent that it opened the door and turned the key to ACC to confirm it fit the ignition... never actually bothered cranking her over. Boy was I surprised when I actually needed that spare to start the truck lol. Exactly what you are going through... can crank all day long but won't fire up.

I have an 08 and it was the key. If you don't have a spare call a lock smith to reset the system.

Just googled and 08 transponder keys are available so quite possible your key has one and has malfunctioned. They key itself will not look like anything fancy as it has a very small microchip inside it. If you don't have the valet key anymore then I would bring it to the dealership and they could confirm if that is the issue quite quickly... or a good locksmith could also trouble shoot this but may be a bit costly.

Op, do you have multiple keys? If the immobilizer ECU is working correctly and your key has indeed malfunctioned or whatever the case is, the other keys should work. Your truck should have came with 3 keys, two black "master" keys and 1 gray "valet" key. Additionally you should have got a small metal tag looking thing with one of the sets of keys that has a 5 or 6 digit code on it that the dealer can use to cut you a new key.

There is a process that a lock smith uses to recode the keys, this same thing happened to me and it was the coding for the key in the immobilizer. It will take a good lock smith 15 minutes to re code it.

It is just a key. There's a chip in the key, no buttons unless you mean the remote entry which is not the same as the immobilizer security system.

Go out to the truck with your second or valet key and try it.

I had lost my key, so AAA came out and made a key and set it to the truck. When I got home, I found that they had changed the coding and my OEM keys would not work, and neither would my remote starter. It would just crank and crank. Use the new key and voila! Had the guy come to my house to reset everything back to how it's supposed to be and now everything works.

If, for some reason, that key you always use has crapped out, then just try another key. You may also have a failure in the immobilizer system, but that will cause a code, B2700 or something like that. Had it on mine after all that stuff I went through.

    Try another key.

^ this. Also it would be helpful if you could tell us what your immobilizer light is doing, it should blink with the key out of the ignition. [IMG]
Edit: the immobilizer light is the red car/light with the key in it.

It has a chip in it. An immobilizer chip. All Tacomas - in fact pretty much every vehicle sold in the US for the past decade has one. It prevents hot wiring. It is why no one sells car alarms much any more.

And if something goes wrong with it then you will get a car that cranks but doesn't start no matter what you try to do or replace.

So listen to everyone telling you to double check this. It would be a really easy fix if that was the problem.

And for the love of crumb cake don't do the ether!!!
