Hello, I have my 2005 Toyota Tacoma it’s been loosing power and it would only start if the check engine light was on. Most of the time it won’t start, I have to wait for hours so it can turn on. But the dash board doesn’t show the it overheating. Does someone know the problem?

You have not given enough info to even start troubleshooting

    Can you read the codes?

What’s the history of the vehicle?

If you mean when you turn the ignition key to the ON Position without going all the way to the START Position and the "Check Engine Light" is not on, it certainly will not start as that means that the ECU is not communicating. So you wait until the "Check Engine Light" comes on and then it will start.

    Is that what you mean?

If it is losing electrical power. Have you checked the battery terminals on the battery to make sure they are clean and tight?

@Jimmyh yes, exactly on the on position, I have to wait till the check engine shows up so it can turns on. sorry for the confusion. Yes the battery terminal is clean and tight, just bought the battery too.

Easiest first thing you can try is swap the EFI relay with a known good relay (horn relay should be the same) and see if that cures it, if not then we have some testing to do.

:fingerscrossed:, we have seen a few bad EFI relays so hopefully that's it.

@Dm93 I changed the efi and the horn, but now When the switch is on the on position the gauge's start to glitch. it would still do the same problem but not as often.

To bet installed: bling grill, headlights, fog lights.
Do what @Dm93 says, but here’s my guess:

maybe some corrosion on the relay or socket. I would inspect both (good light and magnification). Note any discoloration and describe it here. Then I’d reseat the relay 4 or 5 times.

I doubt the relays are inexpensive, but if they are, maybe replace it. If that doesn’t help, you have a spare.

You might be better off waiting until dm93 replies.

Did you notice any corrosion in the box when you were messing with the relays?

no, but I did notice that the old fuse that the efi had was hot. And there were fuses not on the correct place. I changed them in the right place and now my radio ain’t working. Jaja

Are you sure about fuses being in the wrong places? Maybe you weren't looking at the diagram right.

Okey I fixed the fuses and put them the correct position but it’s still having the same problem.

So when the truck is broken (no CEL with the key on) check at the EFI Relay terminals as shown and see what's missing

At the EFI relay, key on.
Pins 1 and 5 should have power and pins 2 and 3 should be ground.
