I'm having a hard time which one I should go with. 2nd Gen Tacoma that is Double Cab, TRD, V6, 4x4 in either automatic or manual. Or a 4th gen 4Runner Limited that I want in between the 06-09 years.

I'll be my DD. Go to work, tow my 4wheeler every once in a while, haul my friends off to go places, mild off-roading, and just general stuff like that.

Plans are either vehicle I choose, I'm gonna mod. As in debadge, hids, good sounding exhaust, window tint, better HU and some subs. Then get new Toyo ATs, PTs or MTs with a new set of wheels.

That's the plan so far. Which one should I do? Has anyone had both?

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Depends if you need a bed or not. 4Runners are better built though because they are made in Japan. If you can fit your 4 wheeler in the bed, do you need a trailer? I used to haul a Griz 660 around regularly in my 2011 access cab and it fit fine, had to have the tailgate down and a pillow wedged between the rear window and the bumper of the quad though so it wouldn't break it.

Tacoma or 4Runner in a Tacoma Forum??? Hmmmmm..

Well, both grata choices. Not sure how the Limited 4Runner does off road with AWD. But they sure do look nice.

I have a '14 Grizzly 700, either way I'd be towing ya know.
I use to have a full size Silverado, I never did use the bed much, but I did couple times.

Both are 4WD, not AWD? I did choose the right sub topic lol

The 4th gen V8s are full time AWD with a center diff that locks to make 4wd like the taco. V6 have the center diff as well, but an ADD too for selectable 2/4wd. I vote 4RUNNER :D

I will they do just fine, if not better off-road due to shorter wheelbase and linked rear.

Sounds like you'd be better off with a 4Runner to me.

I didn't know the V8s, were AWD. I knew the V6s were 2WD/4WD. That's kinda disappointing to me, that's it's always in AWD.

Why is that disappointing to you? You can still lock the center diff for traditional 4wd.

I test drove a 2015 double can TRD today. It was nice, felt a little cramped in it. I don't know if I want a Tacoma now or not.

My brother in law has a 09 4runner V8. Rides much quieter and smoother than my Tacoma. If I didn't haul so much shit all the time I'd consider one. But with him, my sister and 2 boys when we go camping they have gear up on the roof, crammed in the back, on a recover basket and takes them forever to get everything to fit. I have wife, 2 kidz, all our shit and 2 dogs(not allowed in the cab) without anything hanging off or on top of the truck. I go snowboarding a lot w a few buddies and its to just throw everything in the bed an take off, no worries if you have room left for an ice chest or bbq. Makes packing way easier.

I can't make my mind up to save my life. If I get a 4Runner, I would feel like a soccer mom with 3 kids. But I'm single with no kids. I got mods for either way I'm gonna go, so no big deal there. Just hard going to a full size Silverado to mid size truck, even though it's the best midsize truck ever made. My buddy bought a brand new 2015 Tundra last week and that thing is very nice. Plenty of room inside. If had the money I would buy one of them, but I don't.
