Well, 1.04R is superior and I can only imagine that 1.05 is going to be amazing.

I’d never even consider going back to 1.04 on 04B03, if that was even an option. I’d rather stay stock on 04B04.

Yeah, it’s been a significant improvement for me compared to 1.04. I traded my MT a few months ago (very stupid).

Yes. 1.04 rev1 is for people who got the 0B04 flash from Toyota so they can run 1.04 until 1.05 comes out.

To be fair Matt said 1.03 and 1.04 will be ‘obsolete’ once 1.05 is released. Wonder if 1.05 will be as good as its all hyped up to be. Even better, i hope twin turbos can push 400whp without mods and be somewhat reliable

I think everyone will enjoy 1.05. But it's not even comparable to what this truck does with boost.

You think the stock fuel system can handle the increased load?

Even despite some people hitting the fuel cutoff at rpms as low as 4500?

That's a tune thing if I am not mistaken. Besides, 'stock' fuel system does not mean stock injectors and/or pump to me. I won't put words in Mat's mouth, though, I don't know much of anything about these engines.

Fuel cut conditions are very different than fuel capacity / limits of hardware.

Also, as I am wrapping up 1.05. I would love to talk to you guys and get more feedback about this 04B04 recent update. stock tune and 1.04R. Let me know what it's missing, what you would like to see changed, to ensure I have looked at everything

I flashed back to 04B04 stock ECU/TCU today to gather some more data.

A few things I've noticed that I'd like to hear if others experience.

    1. My R&D Truck gets stuck in 4th gear on the highway for a very very log time. D mode, non ECT.
    2. Light driving around 40-45 mph throws the truck in 6th with RPM under at around 1000 rpm or less.
    3. 1-2-3 shift is extremely fast (I know you guys already requested this be changed).
    4. Torque converter lock is pretty much non existent except 6th gear

Yep been having 2 happen. I thought I was feeling the TC go to full lockup a 45 and under but I didn’t realize I was already in 6. So let me think, 6 speeds, 3 TC setting, open/1/2lock/fulllock. That’s 18 gears. Guess I’m really old. Why does a TC lock or 1/2lock at 45 and under.

There is a small dead spot after pulling away from a stop with a little more than moderat peddle. It’s not long but it’s there. Sorry I can’t give you exact rpm range but it’s low, maybe 750 to 900.

Ive been driving on the new toyota update for awhile now and here is my opinion and understand everyone has their own desires for driveability.

    1. 1 - 3 gears shift too quick. Hold gears slightly longer would fix that.
    2. Smoothness of shifting both up and down is perfect, prob due to torque locking but not sure how toyota achieved it.
    3. It seems to downshift at the right rpms now, when coming out of a turn it seldom downshifts under normal acceleration.
    4. Highway feel is dead on for me. Seems to hold gears without downshifting and still have power in that gear
    5. Dont notice the learning anymore like in the past but maybe they made it less pronounced now.

So for me who just wants the truck to drive like the previous 4.0 tacoma, i think toyota is close but not quite yet. Just hope 1.05 doesnt remove how smooth the truck shifts now.

I went from 1.04 to the latest Toyota update while waiting for 1.05 and your comments sum it up pretty good. The latest update was a big move in the right direction, but not 100% there yet. The bad learning definitely seems to be gone, shifts are smooth, downshifts happen when they should. When you need more power give it a little more gas and it smoothy and quickly downshifts. 1-3 does seem a little quick, 3-4 feels better with the new Toyota update than 1.04 but it does seem to bog down a little at times in town ~45mph. I guess if it's shifting into 6th, that might explain that. I haven't put many highway miles on yet, but what I have driven seemed pretty good.

Pretty much dead on assessment for me as well, with one exception. I believe that I AM experiencing some 'learning', which I view as degradation. This learning is nothing like 04B02 however, my original factory tune.
