All this talk of ECU swapping sounds like a whole lot more work than just learning how to use the flashing software :notsure:

So how would returning to “stock” work? The same way? Or swapping ecu’s?

Can someone explain what the OVtuned 1.04R is? I'm running 1.04, should I flash to 1.04R? what's the difference between 1.04 and 1.04R? I haven't checked this thread in a couple of weeks and there are hundreds of pages, can't keep up with it, thanks in advanced.

1.04R is for the guys that got the recent Toyota flash so they can run 1.04 again. Just hang tight for 1.05.

Thank you for the clarification. Do you know if 1.05 will work with ECU 04B02?, that's what I have.

Someone mentioned a bunch of pages back that 04B02 shouldn't be a problem. 1.05 will include toyotas 04B04, though whether or not your ECU ID will actually read 0B04 is still being argued.

If this is even possible (just planting a seed for @OVTune), yes. Any updates or map changes could “theoretically” be handled this way.

Look at the post i quoted from OVTune... it does call out 04b02 for 1.05.

When I had a BMW, i had a tuner/programmer login to my laptop over team viewer. He gave me a zip file and instructions prior to get the tools installed. I also have the correct inpa/dcan cable and all. I texted him the code to conenct to my team viewer, and he proceeded to reprogram a bunch of stuff in my bimmer. Enabled all kinds of features i didnt have... things like that. Was pretty dang cool. He didnt change any ECU/TCU settings, but im sure we could have if I had the right hardware. There is a lot of room for error with this method though. Internet connections drop or lag, wifi drops or lags, all laptops arent the same and things like this just add to the complexity.

To clarify, if you have not updated to the newest ECU version, you can flash 1.05 and just your ECU ID will be different. It'll have the benefits of the new OEM tune along with Mat's improvements nonetheless

Attempting to flash original ECU/TCU Toyota files.. keep getting this error message. Any ideas? Followed all steps as required and it’s the correct calibration file. Deleted and re-downloaded and tried again, same error

EDIT** Reflashed 1.04 91 Oct ECU just fine, same error message when attempting to write/flash 1.04 TCU file. Hmmm..

I like this idea! I’d buy an ECU with the 1.05 tune for $475. And I’d have my stock as back up. I’m in.

sounds like he coded the car and not tuned it. depending the bmw a lot of coding can now be done with a app on your phone and you just select what you want. tuners can tune remote as well with that same setup you were using but will require a data log to verify it. send them a few logs and they can correct and optimize the map/tune for your car since every car is different

whats happens to the other people that paid $780 for the map and dongle?? thats a lot of money for just a tune. I much rather have paid 475 with a back up ecu than had been forced to pay 780 for a base map tune. maybe throw in custom tuning for those that paid the original 780

Well if they bought just the ecu, they wouldnt have the flashing tools as well. If they bought the flashing tools and tune, then they dont really need the pretuned ecu... i think this is for the folks without computers or desire to configure flashing and all.

This also prevents the possibility of switching between the 87, 91, and 93 tune. So for a small additional fee you get 3 tunes instead of one.

flashing tool is $168 and i am under the impression the OV software/tune is locked to your ecu/vin ($612). I much rather have paid $475 and have a spare ecu(ecu cost $). Accept returns?

now if the tuning software and tools were open so we could tune other cars for people than thats a deal. I doubt he wants that so adding in custom tuning free for those that paid 780 would make a little more sense.

3 base map tune that get recycled. every car is different so the tune is not optimize and i just paid an extra $137 for what?

The other person can buy a tune only and you could flash it... it was like 325 or something in the past for tune only.

It is attached to your vin/ecu id.... somehow, but it is specific to your vehicle.
