I went ahead and flashed 1.04r over the TSB. I can deff say it’s better than the stock TSB ECU tune for sure. I had the clunk on 1.04 so I went back to 1.03 until I did the TSB. Now on TSB update and 1.04r, the drivability is greatly improved from original 1.04, the clunk did come back but not near as often or as harsh as it was before the TSB and 1.04. I honestly don’t even notice it. I would say if you are on the new TSB tune and getting impatient waiting for 1.05, give 1.04r a shot! It’s totally usable with 33s, and a bunch of weight. Sometimes I think I miss 1.03 but that’s where I’m hoping 1.05 crushes all of the issues. Especially the random clunks from the transmission and detonation issues.

Edit: all this on 87 octane tunes...

Why do any of you want to skip 1.04R if you’re already updated to 04B04? I understand that 1.05 is going to drop “soon” but why not have another option available anyways? I want more torque and would like the gear shifts 1-4 to hold a little longer but 1.04R has been pretty good for me. I could hardly stand to drive the truck on the old 1.04 and was very close to trading it in prior to 1.04R.

    87 is fine

You only need premium when you OVtune the premium tune

    I"m pretty sure 1.04R is only for 04B04 ECU's.

I don’t think that the manual trucks got a revised 1.04 to work with their Toyota update. I have a dongle kit.

MT doesn't have a revised 1.04, the latest release being 1.04A, which is the MT equivalent of 1.04 for the AT

1.04R is for the updated AT ECU. MT has to wait for 1.05

I understand, but remember that only ONE nation has landed on the moon.... and they did NOT use the metric system to get there.

And 2/3rds of that R&D time was spent converting fractions to something usable.

"hey, hand me a 67/96th wrench so I can figure out this god damn :censored: imperial conversion!"

Love Merca, can't stand the imperial system. Liberia and Myanmar are the only other country left that use this broken a$$ backwards system :bananadead:

Ok so I would have to get the TSB from a dealer to even load 1.04r? My current ECU is 04B03

Yes, if you load without 04B04, you'll brick your ECU

I did the update myself with Techstream and the update file found on TW. Getting my dealer to update me from 04B01 to 04B03 was a pain so I didn’t want to deal with them if I didn’t have to with 04B04.

This is not true, Mat has said multiple times flashing one of his tunes can NOT brick an ECU.

Considering he said that each update from Toyota changes how data is written, stored, organized, etc. And that this TSB is the most advanced from Toyota, it will brick your ECU because there are so many changes. Which is why its taking so long for 1.05 to come out. As an example, one file in 04B03 could be used solely for engine fuel injection meanwhile in 04B04, the file could have been moved somewhere else with a different name meaning your ECU wouldn't know what to do so it wouldn't even start because no fuel

Like I said, It will not brick the ECU. It might fail to to the flash the tune to a prior ECU but it will not brick it.

@OVTune care to weigh in on this?
