It's not the torque converter it's an internal representation of engine torque. The MT ECU has this same table but no torque converter

 

Ah ok. But still you could drive it past their assumption of tolerance for the engine itself. Then again I think we've established they detuned this thing quite a bit with the sort-of Atkinson version we got =). Me, I'm not worried, I'd strap your turbos on and willfully disregard my warranty if California let me have untested turbos =(.

Yes. AT already has 1.04R.

 

I thought 1.04R was not a full release, rather just the TSB update version?

 

Yes, but the AT guys got updated ECUs too...not just the MT guys. Mat said this weekend the MT 1.04R will release. 1.05 is still on the horizon

How dare you question our master

 

Two trucks, one with 1.04 and the other with 1.04R would drive differently because one has the TSB and the other doesn’t. I think it’s an apples/oranges question.

1.04 on 04B03 is very different from 1.04R on 04B04 (TSB). On 1.04R low speed gear changes happen sooner, at highway speeds the shifting is more predictable, and overall it’s just a much smoother response from the engine and transmission. On 1.04 I was getting horribly chaotic shifting at highway speeds on hills and the engine and transmission never really seemed like they wanted to cooperate with each other when performing their duties. 1.04R saved this truck for me.

I know that there have been many different reports about issues and driving characteristics from truck to truck. Hopefully Toyota has that worked out a little better with the TSB and there won’t be so many variances between trucks when everyone is on OV 1.05.
