You're probably right. The speed sensors are wired into the "skid control" ECU. Then the speed is put onto the CANBUS. The dash and other ECUs read it from the bus.

When you install a hypertech calibrator into your taco, you attach it inline to the back of the speedometer. This makes me believe that the speed "signal" comes from the source in the drive train to directly behind the gauge cluster. There are wires that go from the oem harness behind there to the radio to disable features while you are moving, ie the same speed signal wire you can get a bypass for (nav in motion mod).

When you connect via the ODBII port with Techstream, you get access to all the ECU's the vehicle has so I bet if OVTune wanted, he could probably access any of them. Since hypertech is an inline solution, it makes me wonder if its possible at all via ecu change only. Feels like the hypertech is doing the math inline

I have the hypertech. I haven't looked at what it's bypassing. I just assumed it was reading the speed signal on the CANBUS and feeding a new one to the CANBUS the dash sees. I looked at the wire diagrams going into the dash and didn't see a direct line from the skid control ECU to the dash. That's just me guessing though.
I'll look at the radio pins to see what the NAV bypass is doing.

Im guessing too on some of it.

It would be great to have a software only solution though.

Edit: The information in the HU is also updated with the hypertech calibration change. This is why i thought the source was there behind the gauge cluster

If that's the case someone would have to write a script that intercepts the canbus and outputs the corrected speed. And the computer would have to be rewritten to read from the script instead of wherever it does now. Pretty complicated. Hypertech is still probably the best stop gap

it's possible to reprogram the tach over OBDII for larger tires.
however, this is not implemented in our solution yet.
I already have the communication data to do so,

We don't need to modify our tachometer. It's the speedometer that changes with tire size. Is that adjustable?

I’m confused. Do you mean something different from starting the truck and driving how it is on start V.S. reaching up and pushing the button that has the icon of the vehicle with the swervy tire lines?

I thought you were supposed to do daily driving with what the truck defaults with when turned on
