Honestly though, that is your experience but has certainly not been mine. Again, on 1.04A 91. If there was no difference for me, I certainly would not be wasting money on fuel.

He was asking people’s personal reasons for not running the highest octane fuel so that was mine??

Not doubting your experience at all. If there's anyone on this forum that should know how differently these trucks can behave, it's me lol. Ginger stepchild of 3rd gens when it comes to tuning. Just when I think it's finally perfect, I get some dumb side effect that takes some of the shine off. 1.04A 91 for example - went like a scalded cat.. but I had knock at times. 1.03B/C 91 were both powerful, no knock, but stuttered. Sigh..

This is not typical tune feedback BTW, just me and my unicorn.

    LOL, COME ON 1.05

Well then... that explains it. Thank you. If I had the tune files I guess I'd know that. I'm super appreciative of the work Matt is doing. I believe he is single handedly resurrecting our poorly configured investments. I do wish it didn't take 2 weeks from purchase to actually get the tune in place though. The emailing back and forth at a rate of 1 reply per couple days feels primitive. I've been spoiled by Cobb I guess.

I wasn’t implying that, but Re reading my response, I realize how bad it sounded lol. I want to update to 04b04 to see if it makes my truck more like everyone else’s, just too chicken to do it myself and dealer won’t do it cause I’m not at altitude

This poor engineering isn’t isolated to the Tacoma. I test drove a new 2018 Camry SE this weekend for our daughter. It had the same crappy TCU behavior as my stock Tacoma - racing to the highest gear with zero power and hunting for gears when accelerating.

    No worries

I get that for sure, flashing with Techstream is not foolproof by any means. I will say that if a Tactrix cable is used and recommendations followed, it's a pretty stable process. In the M/T software update thread, the one or two guys that bricked their shit perhaps tried a different cable or had a mishap. Damn, sorry to hear that.. another dealer you can get to?

I just keep reminding myself that we ordered at a bad time; holiday weekend coupled with the chaos of an impending update. I have no doubt they're drowning in emails and phone calls at the moment. I do still want my tune ASAP though, so bummed I didn't get it today.

I remember the day I ordered my tune when he was about to go to Asia for two weeks...I was so sick of looking at my computer by the time I got the tune.

That's a good attitude, and you're absolutely correct. Holy crap, back in the day (insert eyeroll lol) we all got our new files by individual email! Talk about boot fucking the F5 key... then you start to think.. did I get missed? Then Mat comes on here and posts that all files have been sent out for a particular ECU......... um, shit!

People don’t know the pain we endured back in the day! Yet people still complain today. Tunes don’t arrive via Amazon prime!

Not a bad comparison. I had an '02 Tundra access cab and the interior was a smidge larger in front and side to side. Possibly a smidge shorter in the back. But that truck just frickin ran. I blew through about 110k miles in 3 years and changed tires once, pads once, plugs once, and I think maybe one battery. Still ran damn near like the day I bought it. It understood 'passing lane' on the highway, and it understood town driving.

Should really be a Beta since it’s done with consumers and gathers user input. But who cares...
