I think i should have been a little more specific with my previous comment by saying that upshifts beyond the displayed s-mode # are not allowed. I have a pretty complete understanding of how the stock s mode works, been using it for 30,000 miles.

Looks like i need to go back to bed though.Just re-read thru some posts, I like this idea for s-mode.

Improved shifting and throttle response was the priority all along, we are all just bouncing ideas and requests around right now waiting for 1.02

I count myself as one of the M/T owners who is salivating for this but have to let the wallet recover just a bit after all the mods I just finished up with in prep for Alaska. But I have read and followed this thread from the beginning and I just want to pop in here for a second to sound off. As a small business owner myself, I am constantly amazed at what a tremendous job Matt @OVTune has done as he's worked through this process. It's just not every day that we find someone who is working hard to create an excellent product while at the same time displaying endless patience and cheerfully responding to every "can you make it do {fill in the blank} while you're at it" question. Truly exceptional!

I know each of us pause for a bit when we get ready to drop this amount of coin on an upgrade, we worry that we won't get our money's worth or that the folks we're handing it over to will just take it and run without making sure we're satisfied, but from everything I've seen here, I sure feel like we've found a Gem of a Company here! Matt, my hat is off to you for the way you have stayed on top of this and kept everyone up to date and informed. Great job you're doing! Thanks!

X2 - I hesitated as well for a few weeks, but the more I saw Matt coming in here and addressing concerns taking feedback real-time to tweak the tunes and wading through the nonsense to provide VALUE is commendable. He's going to make a boatload of money on this gen, and this is when capitalism shows it's true VALUE. Those who make great products wrapped in a solid brand and support model should harvest the spoils of their efforts. Hats off.

Which would require you to actually mash the gas to rev-match. The point is, that under normal circumstances, there is no way you're going to be able to shift from 4th or 5th at 50mph to 2nd. The synchros just won't let you do that. The same situation in an auto with safety features disabled would be bad news. It is much easier to press a button and shift accidentally in an auto than it would be with a manual.

Guys, I need help. I have been watching this Thread since day one. I still cannot for the life of me understand exactly how one of these tunes is installed. Can someone please, in simple terms for me, explain step by step the purchasing process, computer process and installation process?

I'd sincerely appreciate it as I have never messed with a tune before and have absolutely no idea how they install.

Purchasing - Go to the website, select your truck/options, pay monies.

Installation - everything is in a .pdf that Matt will send after purchase.
    1. download drivers and install
    2. download pcmflash software and install
    3. insert your dongle into the appropriate receptacle
    4. plug in the OBD2 module to your truck and computer
    5. open pcmflash software
    6. select your ecu (explained in the instructions)
    7. click "identification" to make sure you are connected to your truck
    8. click "read" and wait for it to finish
    9. Send Matt this file without renaming it.
    10. wait for your tune.

    To flash:
    1. follow steps 3-7 above
    2. open the file Matt sent you
    3. click "Write" and wait.
    4. profit?

That helps a lot...thanks so much for taking the time to walk me through this. Very kind of you!

If I go to the dealer and they re-flash it back to OEM, do I have to do this entire procedure all over again or just the above "To flash" steps?

It would be best to do another read and send it off to Matt. The dealer *may* have updates in the future and he definitely wants to keep up to date with what Toyota is putting out. I don't remember exactly, but I think the ECU and auto trans. computers also need to match or something like that. It would only be a problem if you have an auto and not MT.
