So wierd. 7 months after I bought my Tacoma (long before I bought OVTune) I took the camper from here in Ohio to the Rockies. I never had one issue with performance in the mountains (except for the crappy AT of course).

So what were Toyota’s good reasons? Emissions and mileages?

The truck won't go ape shit but the load, torque calcs are lowered so you might get det, you will very likely see erratic shifting.
1.05 should improve mountain driving over anything else as it totally modifies target angles and calculations for angles.

What I mean is in stock form and previous tunes the angle you get is what is in the modeled tables.
1.05 changes the actual models (4D models) so the ecu actually requests more throttle, regardless of gear or downshift etc.
It nearly doubles the maximum angles in higher gears before downshifting. (6th gear 28 percent to now 50 percent)

A lot said. And so your answer to the possibility of "learning" is ??? I'll check back much later than this afternoon. I'm content with 1.04. Anticipating 1.05. Thanks for the work. Stay safe.

The "learning" is always going to "exist" in a way. It isn't really learning, but rather using one of the many tables at its disposal to achieve a better driving experience. It's not recording your drive and modifying the hard code, it's recording feedback from all sensors and selecting "map set A" "map set B" etc ( map sets from A to P). They are already condensed in 1.05, and the transmission ones are in 1.04

It's kind of difficult to explain.
I have tested one thing to eliminate it (force map set A always) however more data is needed to see how safe this is. By literally blanking out the 3rd 4D axis it's forced to use only 1 table set.

As someone that can actually see Pikes Peak from his front door and soon to have 285/70/17 tires, I really do need to get this tune (and 4.88's).

This makes sense, but how often does it update its data set for table selection?

It sounds like this is also the case on a M/T truck (obviously everything but the slushbox shift tables).

    Whoa...

@OVTune, how does this translate for M/T tunes?

IIRC you mentioned "per gear" specific table modifications before for M/T.

(For everyone else, yes I know the ECU does not "talk" to our M/T transmissions. But, if you assume stock tire size, speed and RPM should give enough data to assume a gear). Also, the truck should "know" what Tcase range you're in - inputs from Tcase internal limit switches.

Been on 1.04. 91 for about 3000mi..Truck runs great. Don’t notice any “learning”. Yesterday I ran 85mph up a fairly steep hill for about 3mi Truck stayed in 5th the whole way.Left a Pro and another OR way behind..Maybe it’s just the difference in each truck we are seeing?? Love1.04

Did not get tsb——so just plain 1.04. Forgot to mention that.. Maybe it’s the tsb?

    1.04A 91 M/T > 1.04R 91 M/T in my case.

    Power-wise at least.

I also feel it has a lot to do with the driver and how heavy your foot is. I see a lot of people bragging about their MPG's and all I can think of is that one guy who goes the speed limit everywhere and hardly experience any WOT scenarios. I drive like an asshole and not afraid to admit it lol, I like to have fun. Maybe that's why I noticed a huge difference after reflashing. I was driving on the tune for 6 months, not sure about mileage.

I've been out for a minute and would like a quick update, as a lot of info seems to be buried. Has any of the iterations gained any additional hp/tq since the chart posted in post #1?

After flipping through a few pages...seems like there has not been any additional gains # wise, but more so improvements to the driving characteristics.

I'm with you on this. I was loving 1.04A but decided to apply the tsb and run 1.04R. 1.04R was great at first, but that changed after a few weeks. After reflashing 1.04R91 a few days ago my mileage is back up to where it was (+2mpg) I guess I'll see how long it lasts this time.

I was installing a front camera the other weekend and disconnected my battery and I was halfway through a tank of gas (of driving back and forth to work). Monday morning the throttle was way more sensitive and the truck spent the whole freeway drive in 5th, never 6th. My tank mpg average dropped by 2 during the 30 minute drive... (19.x to 17.x).
I am but a simple man but that felt like a pretty straightforward correlation = causation lol
    edit: 1.04 on stock tires/suspension

Same here, I'm gonna miss the mountains when I finally move. Only had time to drive around for about 10 minutes on the tune yesterday, but I definitely feel a difference. Interested to see how things go over time, and how 1.05 will feel when it finally comes out
